planning to up grade a homes 20 amp wires because All breaker in sub are red.without tripping. What wire is best.Cause?

double wide mobile home 40 yrs +
Asked by: sandboxx60
This wire is rated at 20 amps it has a 90 degree temp rating, more than 3 conductors do require derating at 80% but the NEC allowed the higher ampacity collum to be used for the derate 90 deg collum #12 is 30 amps so even with 9 current carrying conductors and a 70% derate the wire would still be legal on a 20 amp breaker and would pass any code review or actual inspections. #12 is limited to 20 amps in residential for safety reasons. 14awg wire is similar but limited at 15 amps the below response from south wire is WRONG!

Why is this wire so important

And why is expensive
Asked by: labam
This is a dual circuit cable and can be used for 2 home run circuits. It helps save labor time/costs. It costs more than standard 12-2 (single circuit) NM-B cable due to the extra conductors. The above advice is based upon the current edition of the National Electric Code (NEC). Free access to the latest version of the NEC is available online at www.nfpa.org/freeaccess. The NEC and local building codes regulate the types of wire and cable that can be used in specific electrical applications, as well as the manner of installation. Check your local building codes before you start any wiring and cable electrical project and be sure to obtain required permits. When your work is complete, always have it inspected for compliance with local codes to ensure that it has been safely installed.

250 ft. 12/2/2 Solid SIMpull NM-B Wire is rated 2.8 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Specific use type of cable The 12-2-2 NM cable (and 14-2-2 NM) was designed for specific uses.It is not an everyday use cable. It can be used (and in certain applications is required) for specific 3-way and 4-way lighting circuits. It can be used for ceiling fans or bathroom fans with light kits and night lights incorporated into them. It can also be used for 2 separate circuits. With GFCI and AFCI circuits becoming mandatory, it is necessary to keep neutrals completely isolated. This cable allows for specific application installations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Misinformed 12/2/2 Has 4 conductors vs 12/2 which has 2 conductors, so the "extra neutral" comment doesn't make much sense to me. Yes it is about $200 more than two spools of 12/2 but this is made more for electricians who's time is money.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Nice idea, but price is off the chart... So why would a 1000' spool of 12-2 cost around $300 but then add one more neutral to make it 12-2-2 and suddenly the cost goes to over $800!! Makes no sense except that 12-2-2 is not really moving the volume of 12-2. I'll go back to running regular 12-2 since this is so expensive. Better to run two of those than one of these.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Ditto I agree with Zapphed. I'll bet the sales are very low. Come on Home Depot, this one needs reviewing.
