UL allows SER in conduit above ground only - not below ground.

can this wire be used from weather head to meter base.are the individual cables uv resistant?what happens with the ground?

Asked by: brian
It is recommended to use an Al SEU cable rather than the SER Cable. The SEU cable does not include a ground wire. The jacket and all wires are UV resistant for both SEU and SER cables. Installation must comply with the NEC and any local requirements.

can this be purchased per foot length?

Asked by: R0BT
This product is available through HomeDepot.com as a cut or "By the Foot" item. You would have to check with your local Home Depot to see if they stock and cut the wire at that location. Most Home Depot's have wire machines and keep stock on several service entrance cables that they cut in store.

Can This cable be used inside a residence.. i.e. from service entrance to distribution panel?

Does this cable meet this requirement? "Type USE (Underground Service Entrance) conductors are not permitted to enter a building unless they are also identified with the additional markings RHH and RHW (triple-rated)."
Asked by: Snowsnake
Answer: Yes, Type SER cable can be used inside a residence and in fact one of its primary functions is wiring from the meter base to the distribution panel. Type SER cable can be used out doors in above ground applications only. You can get spec sheets at Southwire.com under the product catalog page.

Is this wire good for mobile home feeder

Asked by: Curt
The answer to your question is: no. Mobile Home Feeder is a direct burial rated wire and SER is not. We would suggest ordering our actual Mobile Home Feeder cable (4/0-4/0-4/0-2/0 AL MHF model # 28714401). The above advice is based upon the current edition of the National Electric Code (NEC). Free access to the latest version of the NEC is available online at www.nfpa.org/freeaccess. The NEC and local building codes regulate the types of wire and cable that can be used in specific electrical applications, as well as the manner of installation. Check your local building codes before you start any wiring and cable electrical project and be sure to obtain required permits. When your work is complete, always have it inspected for compliance with local codes to ensure that it has been safely installed.

Customer Reviews

250 ft. 4/0-4/0-4/0-2/0 Grey Stranded Aluminum SER Cable is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Industry Standard product with free shipping can't be beat! Couldn't get this locally so I ordered it from HD. The price as comparable and they shipped it free so I actually made out not having to drive 80 miles to the nearest electric supplier house. It's Industry standard South Wire product so you can't go wrong. You will need some method of cutting it to length though as it's a large cable.
