Questions & Answers

whats the cut price per ft?

Asked by: fs
Please consult your local home depot for pricing. The above advice is based upon the current edition of the National Electric Code (NEC). Free access to the latest version of the NEC is available online at www.nfpa.org/freeaccess. The NEC and local building codes regulate the types of wire and cable that can be used in specific electrical applications, as well as the manner of installation. Check your local building codes before you start any wiring and cable electrical project and be sure to obtain required permits. When your work is complete, always have it inspected for compliance with local codes to ensure that it has been safely installed.

I need 250 feet of 8 gage 3 strand wire. I need for a water well

Asked by: Garth
SEU cable is for use above ground only (primarily as a service entrance) and is not the proper product for a water well application. The proper cable to use is a purpose built pump cable. Check the requirements for the pump motor to determine the ampacity needed and if a ground (green equipment grounding conductor) is needed. Normally, pump manufacturers specify the use of solid or stranded copper conductors – check the manufacturer’s directions. Use the Southwire voltage drop calculator (http://www.southwire.com/support/voltage-drop-calculator.htm) to determine if you need to upsize the conductors due to voltage drop. The proper product to use is one of these: With equipment ground: http://www.southwire.com/ProductCatalog/XTEInterfaceServlet?contentKey=prodcatsheet419 Without equipment ground: http://www.southwire.com/ProductCatalog/XTEInterfaceServlet?contentKey=prodcatsheet421 If Home Depot does not have this product on the shelf, it can be ordered through the Pro Desk. Unless you are very comfortable with the above advice, please consider hiring a professional electrician for this work – for your own safety and the safety of others.
