Customer Questions & Answers

Is 14 gauge solid wire strong enough to use on a well pump with a double poll 30 amp breaker

Asked by: Jeff
Any circuit fused for 30 amps must use a minimum of 10 ga copper or 8 ga alu. Longer runs may require an upgrade of wire size. In your case, use at least 10 copper for your welder regardless how far it is from the breaker panel. http://diy.stackexchange.com/questions/9765/what-wire-gauge-should-i-use-with-a-30-amp-breaker-for-a-220v-welder

is this ok for burial for a dog fence

Asked by: McRob
No – this product is not rated for direct burial. Instead use wire rated USE(-2) (Underground Service Entrance) or single conductor UF (Underground Feeder). You can get spec sheets for all products at Southire.com under the product catalog page.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great wire I can't say much about 14 ga copper wire except that it isn't cheap. I used it to install an in ground pet fence and hope the system works and my dog stays in my yard. Otherwise I will have 2,500 feet of heavy copper wire for jewelry and fiber weaving projects.
