Customer Questions & Answers

what is the weight of the spool of wire

Asked by: DC
These products are 11 lbs each. But keep in mind that they are only sold in multiples of 4 (4,8,12) so the product would weigh 44 lbs if you wanted 4 spools. The above advice is based upon the current edition of the National Electric Code (NEC). Free access to the latest version of the NEC is available online at www.nfpa.org/freeaccess. The NEC and local building codes regulate the types of wire and cable that can be used in specific electrical applications, as well as the manner of installation. Check your local building codes before you start any wiring and cable electrical project and be sure to obtain required permits. When your work is complete, always have it inspected for compliance with local codes to ensure that it has been safely installed.

12/1 solid wire vs 12 solid cable

What is the difference between 12/1 solid wire and 12 solid cable. I'm looking at 500 ft spools of 20 amp wire and see both options for solid.
Asked by: golfnut
There is no difference. Home Depot sometimes uses the - or / and the number of strands if the cable is solid or stranded. For solid wire, they sometimes use the -1 or /1. If the wire is stranded, depending on the number of strands, they would say 12-19 or 12/19 stranded...if the cable had 19 strands. THHN is a single conductor either solid or stranded.
