Is this wire suitable for connecting the meter base to a 200 amp distribution panel?

Is this wire suitable for connecting the meter base to a 200 amp distribution panel?
Asked by: rphil7
Probably not. Anything after the main breaker needs the equipment ground and the neutral separated. That means you need a cable with 4 conductors, the 2 hots, the neutral and the ground.

i am looking for wire to power from my current breaker box out to a building/shop? the distance is around 120'

Asked by: Jr
You don't mention the load you intend to serve, but considering that you call it a shop I'd recommend a 60 amp feeder to a subpanel in the detached garage. The NEC requires a 4 wire feeder (2 hots, 1 neutral and 1 ground). At a length of 120 feet I would recommend #4 copper THHN/THWN-2 in conduit to minimize voltage drop. You will need 3 - #4s and 1 - #8 ground for the feeder. The subpanel should have a 100 amp main breaker as a disconnect and will need a ground bar kit to be installed (assuming more than 6 total circuits). DO NOT install the neutral bonding screw, throw it away, the neutral bus must be isolated from the grounded panel box. You'll also need at least one ground rod connected to the ground bar with #6 copper Grounding Electrode Conductor.

Looking for 200 amp 250mcm entrance cable

cheaper than copper - 4/0 aluminum seu wire isn't approved for 200 amp, what do you have
Asked by: Ronald
The NEC allows either 4/0 aluminum or 2/0 copper for 200 amp service to a dwelling. That can be either service entrance cable such as Type SEU or it can be separate conductors such as Type THHN/THWN-2 or Type XHHW installed in conduit.
