Customer Questions & Answers

can i just add a wire?

i have a 30 amp running 100' for my water well 2 #8 wires and #10 solid ground wire in 1" conduit. i would like to add a 4' light and one outlet. can i change the 30 amp to 40 amp, add a #8 wire in the conduit and put a subpanel in well house with one 20 amp for well and one 15 amp for light and plug.

While it is possible to do that configuration, you could also just bump up and remove the existing #8 wire and put in #2 SER in aluminum and have a 100 amp subpanel feed if you decide to add even more power to it eventually. That doesn't mean the subpanel will always be at 100 amps, but it is cheaper to run #2 larger alum wire than the #8 copper typically, and it means you can safely run your pump, as well as any other devices off of it with no problems. Consult an electrician if you encounter any on-site issues or specific questions not addressed here. Joseph

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product! This is a great product and price, but the only draw back is its hardly ever in stock at the store to purchase in a rush. This is for about 9 stores from Brooklyn, NY to Northern NJ, in between. Very hard to find in stock. I have had to drive all over and call many different locations just to find it.
