Customer Questions & Answers

1000 ft . 23-Gauge CAT6 Riser CMR Cable - Blue (4 pair). What is the MHZ for this cable?

I bought this wire for my house and I don't know if is good enough for my system.
Asked by: Robi
Some of the comments that say this is not a Cat6 cable are not true. Cat6 cable has up to a 250 mhz rating and does not necessary have a plastic insulator on the inside. The main thing to look at is that the twists in the pairs are tight which means more copper in the cable. I think what folks how are saying that Cat6 should be at 550 mhz are referring to the Cat6a - Cat7 cables.

Can this CAT6 product be used under ground? (Southwire TYPE CMR-BLUE 23/4) Photo attached.

Asked by: Jdog50
its not rated for underground use. This is basic riser cable mainly for in wall (none commercial) use.

Do you have connectors on this cable and can I get 200 feet

I am looking for 100 to 200 feet of Cat 6 Shielded cable with the connectors Thank you
Asked by: Maria
This is just bare cable. You have to terminate (put jacks/connectors on) the cable yourself. There are no options for 200' boxes. Buy this and pull 2 runs, so you have an extra cable for future network expansion!

Is this Shielded or Unshielded cable?

Asked by: DIYNoob
Unshielded. Normally unless you have a lot of metal studs in your house, you dont really need shielded.

Hopefully it is just the box of cable that I bought being "defective", but this is the WORST cable I've ever tried to use. Haven't been able to make a 10' run without there being breaks in the cable. 3 runs done, but will have to redo them because I can't even get a link over the cable. Thank god I tested before I did the really complicated runs! P.S. Would've given 0/5 stars if I could.

Needed a smaller box for a shorter run. Pairs in this cable are rather difficult to un-twist when terminating, so if I had it to do all over again, I'd probably go with a different brand of cable (and test the pairs before purchasing).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best deal on wire i have found I have used 10 boxes of this wire in the last six months great for indoor use as long as the temperature is above 40F any colder and the jacket cracks as soon as you move it...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The pull box makes installation easy! My home network is humming along on CAT6 which is faster and more secure than wireless. I ran two cables per drop which can be used for data and phone. Coupled with a patch panel, I can make changes just by plugging in. Cutting over from my old phone wiring to the new wiring took less than 10 minutes and the computers worked trouble free. Since it is residential, I wired to the T568A standard. I actually got higher Internet speed than I had before since I eliminated most of the phone company mess.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not much better than Cat5e This cable is very thin, jacket tears easy and tangles in conduit. There is no center core to separate twisted pair as every other CAT6 cable I have ever used had. I am a telecom design engineer and I work with this type of cable all the time. I tested the cable and it will not preform per CAT6 1g standards past 50ft which is shorter than standard. I will have to note that I do have 6 AC lines I run parallel for about 17ft that I could not avoid. I do not recommend this product but if you choose to use it try to limit its use to lower data transfer locations that you do not intend to send large files.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from General Cable much better quality Home Depot used to sell General Cable then went to Southwire, which I guess was probably do to pricing so they can gouge the consumer for a few extra pennies per box? As a master electrician who has run many thousands of feet of networking cable, I prefer General Cable over Southwire, Better jacket, easier to pull, and less kinks and other headaches.
