Questions & Answers

Our Client wants "Belldon" CAT6 cable. Is this a manufacture name or a grade that you match?

Asked by: Ray
The company name is Belden and they manufacture Cat 6 cables among a pretty wide range of other cable types

difference between riser and plenum cable

Asked by: opie
Fire rating. Riser is required when not explosed to a Plenum air return. Plenum is required when it is run throught a suspended ceiling which is also used as an air return. Check your return air ducts to see if they have ducted returns, or if they open the ceiling above. Also check with your local inspectors. some just want Plenum regardless.

Can this be direct buried? If not, which CAT6 cable can be buried directly in the ground?

Asked by: captain
no it can not. The CMP should say CMX in order for it to be direct burrial rated. Even then in the CMX there are liquid filled models for fully submersible and "damp locations" models. make sure you get the correct cable for the correct application. THat would be a sure way to pass/Fail an Electircal inspection

Can this be used to wire a 70 volt speaker system?

Asked by: Mark
No, but you can purchase speaker cable at Home Depot, where you can also find qualified personnel that will help you to select the proper gauge cable in basis of your application.

Customer Reviews

500 ft. Gray 24/4 CAT5e CMR Riser Cable is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 66.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Replaced the good with the bad I do a LOT of network wiring (about 5-10K feet/month) and had been using Home Depot's General Cable brand which was superb! Nice thick jacket that was consistently round and easy to strip. Home Depot replaced General Cable with Southwire a few months ago and I can't stand this cable! The outer jacket is very thin and almost seems like it has been heat shrunk around the UTP wires and thus it is very bumpy. This makes it very hard to strip without nicking the wires even with good UTP strippers! Worst of all is that each and every box will get tangled somewhere along the line! Never had that problem with General Cable. Wish HD would switch back to General Cable!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 160 ft. of cable spooled out of the box without... 160 ft. of cable spooled out of the box without binding at all; but there were deep indentations in the cable's outer jacket which are indicative of sharp-bends / kinks in the cabling. After gently from box & laying out, cutting off the last foot and terminating the ends- 3X, it still doesn't work.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Knots upon knots The inside of the box was full of knots making it impossible to pull throught the hole in the box. Especially from a floor up. I had to enlist help to untangle as i pulled.
