First off, I agree with some of the other reviews that mention the tops of the posts will not always come off. I ordered 8 of these and had trouble with a few of them. My solution was simple, keep the tops on the posts, take a block of wood and set it on top of the spike. Use a sledge hammer to pound the block of wood and the entire spike post goes into the ground. The end result is the top of the spoke is unharmed, and the post is deep in the ground! There was only one instance where the block of wood made a small mark on the top of the spike - my simple solution was to color the mark in with a permanent marker, and now it looks perfect again. I couldn't be happier with these spike posts that go with my beautiful fence pieces!!! Highly recommend!

This Spike Post fits a particular fence is why I recommend it for that fence. I could not get the decorative top off to pound in ground. It was screwed on so tight it had to be done by machine. No person with a Philips screw driver could break it loose. I had to pound in ground with Decorative top on which caused them to break. The tops are now glued on. I don't know how well the glue will hold up to the weather. If the glue doesn't hold up I will be forced to buy else ware.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fence! We needed to create a small permanent fence to keep our dogs away from a certain area of the yard but have a gate that we can push the lawn mower through, etc. It is good quality and although it requires two people to put it together and a few tools, it is really nice. You will need these posts to complete the fence. Be careful when hammering these on the ground, if there are rocks you can bend the stake and it is almost impossible to straighten them. We used cheap thin rods to stick on the ground to test the ground first.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Bendy! Really attractive fence, but the posts bend easily and can't be straightened. I ended up digging out holes for the posts and setting the gate posts in cement, as the gate MUST be level and plumb to work right, so the install isn't as easy as advertised, but once up, it is pretty and keeps my small dogs out of part of the yard, as intended.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from NOT as described I used these posts to support 2 end panels and a gate. GREATLY DISSAPOINTED. This is a prime example of the small stuff can ruin a project. First the finals that are supposed to come off with a small screw are pressed on then electro baked with paint on. They will not budge no matter what you try.I ended up using a dead blow hammer to drive them in. Problem #2 the tip end bends EASILY I hit a small piece of shale roughly a quarter size. It bent the tip!!! Dug it out only stone in the soil I was shocked and the tip was bent to a 30 degree angle quickly. Forcing me to dig out the hole by hand and using cement to secure the post in place. The posts are required to use with this setup. Specrail customer service I think is non existent they haven't responded. Its a shame fence LOOKS nice but quality just is not there.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from disappointing but sturdy and useful The instructions imply that the top should come off. If it would, it would make installation much more simple. BUT the tops are not screwed on -- they have been pushed on with a hydraulic press. I tried removing one in my shop and was up to 200 lbs pull and only moved it about a half inch. So-- the installation becomes much more complex as you have to hammer it (using a wood block to protect the finial) into the ground AFTER inserting through one of the fence sections, keeping it plumb and getting it to the right depth so that the fence sections will all be level with each other. Quite a task- which will require two persons, but not impossible. The result, however, is a nice looking, very sturdy fence. Kind of disappointing that while the store sometimes stocks the fence panels, the posts are not stocked at all(???) and have to be ordered online-- and there seems to be a shortage of them. Had to go to three different places to get enough. IMHO each fence panel should come WITH a post!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 12 in. x 7 in. Red Concrete Wall Block Thumbs up to the Red Concrete Wall Blocks. I had a problem with runoff on a hill in my backyard. I was considering using railroad ties. To my surprise I found that the red concrete wall blocks not only cost less but were much more aesthetically appealing. Once I got the first row of blocks leveled the installation was a breeze. There are a few things to consider before you decide to do this DIY project. You'll need a roll of heavy-duty plastic to keep the soil for seeping through the seams of the blocks. The plastic goes on the back side between the wall and soil, from top to bottom and it should extend for the entire length of the wall. You'll also need the concrete wall caps to finish off the top of the wall and an concrete adhesive to hold the caps in place.
