How many strands can I get out of this unit?

I have strands that use 41 watts of power. This unit is rated for only 900 for the complete unit and all 3 receivers is that right?

So i can only use 20 strands and then it'll blow? Or is it 900 per each receiver?

Answer:
We have 2 expansion kits, so 9 receivers + the main unit and have <30,000 lights with NO issues at all. We use 100% LEDs which claim you can run 25 strings together, but we usually go with no more than 10.

Answer:
We have the unit and the extension set and popped the GFI. The unit doesn't care. It's up to you. I think the warning labels say no more than 3 strands should be connected together. From every outlet you should only put the safest amount of strands. Get the extension unit so you can add more lights and it'll add more POP as well.

Answer:
No. You can have the receivers and speaker on timers, but the main unit has no static memory, has to have constant power to retain it's state. If you turn of the power it will NOT come back on in music mode.

Answer:
Just purchased at Home Depot less than an hour ago. There is no manual/instructions anything in the box. There is a picture on the outside that shows you how to plug them in, but that's it.

Customer Reviews

Rated 2.3 out of 5 by 61 reviewers.
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by What the specs don't tell you This is a start at a more sophisticated light show. The music does not come with it, but that could be a nice advantage in that you can use it for other events and have the lights "sort of synchronize" with the music. Imagine an outdoor wedding or Halloween. The music speakers can run off a SD card (not included) or by bluetooth from you smart phone, iPOD or the like. There seems to be a limit of one speaker per setup. When you try to run multiple speakers (from multiple sets), only one can be controlled by the smartphone, so you can't really adjust the volume on the second or additional speakers. The main unit (base controller) picks up ambient music / noise to determine the synchronization to the music. Thus, the speaker needs to be close to the main unit. The instructions say the main unit should be within a meter of the speaker, but at least one review says to strap the speaker to the base controller. This system runs three circuits of lights, but that's the maximum. Adding the additional receivers does not increase the number of circuits. The extra receivers (and the receivers included in the main box) only allow remote sets of lights to synchronize with the main unit. Thus, you can have lights quite a distance from the primary setup that are on their own electric supply synchronize with the primary unit. This could be good when you can't run cords from point to point. It could also be good if you want to synchronize some of your neighbors' lights. Yes, extra remote receivers can be activated by primary unit, so there's no limit (other than distance) for that. This system does not allow you to program when each of the three circuits come on. The synchronization to the music is clunky. You don't actually get to program how the lights' on/off functions on the three circuits are activated by the music. If you are thinking this is your way to win the Great Light Fight, think further. This can be fun, but nothing like that. Quality seems to be OK, but two remote receivers did not work out of the five sets (15 remote receivers) I bought. So, an interesting step up from static lights and a way to have your whole yard coordinated, but not a super-sophisticated system for a regional or national competition! January 3, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great item for the money I bought this set right after thanksgiving. We downloaded 35 Christmas songs in MP# format as it stated. I put those in a mini sd card and in it went. Just to make sure it worked i plugged in 9 different sets of lights into each plus and turned it on. With the transmitter right next to the speaker as indicated in the directions and u tube videos i watched , they all worked perfectly. I currently have 35000 yes 35000 LED bulbs on this system. I have bought another expansion pack to try next year as id like my blow molds on it as well. I don't know what the issue is with some of these reviews but if the unit doesn't work swap it out. If it does in fact work and you cant figure out how to use it. Google this on u tube as i did to make sure i had it set up right. One day i will buy the light o Rama controller sets. Until then, this will do just fine.Nothing like seeing 20 cars out front of your house at a time watching your light show. December 20, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great for the Price A simple light show for the beginner. Purchased it this year to have a simple light show and everyone has enjoyed it so far. About 30 - 50 cars, including nursing home buses, per night do a drive thru. Looking a purchasing another one for another part of the display. I see everyone, that has purchased this item, says the music does not synchronize with music. Well that is correct however, my husband has found the solution. You have to attach the speaker to the main controller box with zip ties. The vibration from the speaker will make the lights dance, dance, dance. December 21, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Save your money This product is terrible. It in no way syncs the lights and music. At best this device is good for random flashing. I was highly disappointed in this product. I even bought a 2nd one thinking that maybe I just got a bad one, sadly that wasn't the case. At least it was an easy return. December 28, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by OK, needs more work First problem is you have no way to remotely turn on the sound, the lights yes but not the sound. Why not incorporate the sound and light controller together with a single remote. Or have a built in timer?? The lights kinda flash to the music, but not synchronized. So it's ok , but needs improvement. November 28, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Bought mine today! I'm just beginning my setup and testing of unit. Got my TSO MUSICE LOADED ON BIG SIM CARD! Sounds great! I ordered a couple of lazer lights shows from another source! I do know you can run more LED LIGHTS as the do not draw amps like old ones do. I'm going to combine 2 separate units this you to go BIG! I can't wait to set it up in front yard! November 21, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The Secret To 5-Star Performance I read all the reviews and almost didn't purpose this product. I purchased, only to realize I'd brought home a box some other person has returned. Damaged remote created "on/off" from music sensor. Once I returned & set up the replacement, this kit works exactly as advertised (and as I'd hoped). Here's what you MUST know: 1. For main controller and each satellite, ONLY plug cord directly from power source into TOP outlet. Do not attempt to power lights, trees, etc from the TOP plug. The extension cord directly from your power source plugs into the TOP plug on each satellite. This is a common problem I noticed with a friend who asked to troubleshoot his setup using the same kit. 2. Confirm every satellite is within 65 feet of main controller - line of sight is mandatory. 3. Place speaker within 1 foot of main controller, facing main controller. 4. Press button at top of speaker to power it on once you have loaded music (mp3) onto an sd card. Press remote to power on main controller. You'll hear a double beep as all strands of lights and decorations plugged into each satellite power on. 5. To achieve lights dancing to beat of the music, press "music sensor" one time on remote. Lights suddenly will dance to the music. It's a beautiful sight, eliciting great appreciation from passersby. :) Sadly, the manufacturer has chosen NOT to detail instructions - too many ambiguous statements in their instructions. One power extension cord to EACH satellite. You can plug several strands of lights into the BOTTOM plug of each satellite receiver (max ~450 watts/ receiver I believe). BUT do not plug anything else into the TOP plug, designed for POWER, provided by extension cord plugged into timer for instance. Hope this helps. December 8, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Lights really not in sync with music The multiple light programmable options are nice but all the lights are on the same pattern and not really in sync with music. But I love having the music December 4, 2015
