Product Overview

Japanese Beetles are destructive pests that can cause extensive damage to a wide range of ornamental and edible plants in the lawn and garden while their larvae burrow through the soil where they cause even more damage feeding on lawn grass roots. Spectracide Bag-A-Bug Japanese Beetle Trap draws Japanese beetles away from your trees, shrubs, roses, and flowering plants, and then traps them so they can't continue their destruction. Its effective combo lure system, with natural sex attractant and floral lure, draws insects from over a 5,000 sq. ft. area to help protect your entire lawn and garden from these destructive pests throughout the entire beetle season. The scent container gets attached to the small slats cut into the plastic hangar.

Would this product also work to capture lady bugs?

Asked by: Anonymous
I doubt it, but then why would you want to? Lady bugs are beneficial in the garden.

Is it harmful to people to breathe in the scent while sitting nearby?

Asked by: Wheezie
No, it's not harmful to people. It contains no pesticides, just an attractant to draw beetles into the bag.

June bugs are very similar to japanese beetles. They're attracted to the same things and burrow away the same way.

Would this be effective on them, even as just a deterrent?
Asked by: bughater
I have never captured any in my bags. Only Japanese beetles.

Bag-A-Bug Japanese Beetle Trap is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 67.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I wish everything in life worked this good! Those darn beetles appeared out of nowhere and were chomping away at my large knock out roses. I purchased this product and placed 2 of them approx. 20 feet away from the roses. I kid you not, within 24 hours, those bags were FULL of beetles and there were very few left on the roses. It's best to kick the trunk of the rose bushes to convince them to let go. While watching them fly about, it's amazing to see them hone in on the attractant and fall into the bag. My grandkids think it's the best thing ever, they check that bag about 5 times a day! Winner, winner here!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product! This works great to trap the annoying, troublesome Japanese Beetles so that they aren't destroying my raspberry plants - very few remaining around them after hanging this nearby! It also attracted and then trapped them so that they weren't all over the ferns in my yard, so I didn't have to go and get another one for those. I was pleasantly surprised by that!! =)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful product We have a lot of problems with Japanese beetles. Bag-a-Bug has done a wonderful job protecting our gardens. We no longer have our basil and roses being eaten before we get to them. We leave the bags up until full and not had any problems. We put three bags up and do not care if we are attracting our neighbors bugs. Those bugs will only bread and come onto our property so let us take care of them before they do any damage. The bags are a little gross to change. We have found that it is best to bring out another plastic bag to dump the bag-a-bug in to as soon as we remove it from the plastic holder. We put the bag-a-bug bag in the other plastic bag before we remove it from the plastic holder and tie it up as soon as we remove the bag-a-bug. This way they do not have a chance to fly out. We also found that a small rock in the bottom of an empty bag keeps it from swinging in the wind.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Genius! My garden had literally been ravaged by Japanese beetles. Last year was a bit of an issue, and this year was significantly worse. Unfortunately, I hadn't educated myself enough to understand how to minimize the impact of these pests. Fortunately, I was introduced to these handy traps a couple weeks ago, and they've literally saved my garden. I bought two separate traps and put them in opposite corners of my yard. In a week's time, both were stuffed to the brim. Most importantly, the herbs that the bugs had been chowing on showed very little to no additional damage. My only negative comment? The bags have filled up so quickly that I need to go back and buy more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good product Within hours of putting this out, the bag was 1/3 full. Since then have not seen many beetles lurking around. I only wished I had done it earlier in the season; will certainly do it sooner next year, before so much damage to my rose bush.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Fast to Trap Japanese Beetles Within about 15 minutes of putting the Japanese Beetle trap out in the yard, we already had several bugs trapped in the bag. Two weeks later, we are still capturing the beetles. We did have to move the trap from the back yard to the front because it initially appeared to attract more beetles to the yard. The instruction to place the traps "downwind" of the infected plants is a little hard to follow when the wind is constantly changing directions, but moving the trap to the front yard when our roses are in the back yard seemed to help. Still have a few Japanese beetles on the roses, but it's not nearly as bad. The "optional" stand is really not optional - if you don't order it, you will have nothing to hang the trap on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from These do work!! I ended up buying a bunch of these near the end of the Japanese Beetle invasion so we'll be ready for them next year. Had to buy on line since I suppose they're so popular the stores ran out. They work wonders, couldn't believe how many bugs ended up in the bag in just a couple days. I would recommend not letting them build up in the bag, then just tossing it - the dead ones smell terrible even though the knotted bag. I ended up dumping them in a covered pail of water every couple days until they were all dead, then emptied it over my fence into the woods, the dead ones didn't smell then, probably because they were spread out and not tied up in a hot bag. I suppose you could also flush them. Also when I dumped them into the water I used the hose to clean the bag and reused it since the bait was still good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from true it's name Japanese Beetle trap ... Not many choices, but this has always worked well for us. Start every year with new bags and bates ... just wish we didn't have to buy the kit with the wimpy wire to get best value. Wires go to the dump as they are not substantial enough to hold more than an inch of beetles in the bag. Replacement bags and bates should be LESS expensive, not MORE than the kit.
