Customer Questions & Answers

Is it plastic or metal?

Is this just pushed into a 4" hole or must it be screwed in?

Asked by: Homeowner
It's made to snap in to the hole diameter left by a 4 inch whole saw. If needed, or if you wanted to so as to feel better about it, you could use screws as well. Be sure to predrill the plastic.

Customer Reviews

4 in. White Round Soffit Vent is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 39.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does its job quite well Inexpensive, easy to install. Stays in place on own for now, but I can see the need for screws through the flange if it is has to be removed and re-installed for painting the soffits. Fortunately, the flange is plenty large to accomodate this. The flex duct holds secure with use of a zip tie (not included but required by code in a few municipalities). This is a case of simple is better in my opinion and our fans work many times better than they did when ducts were routed up and looped around a rafter brace by the original builder.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Vent !!!!! Great product and easy to install. I replaced my other soffit vents with these. I did some additional attic ventilation so I purchased some more must have been over a dozen. Do yourself a favor get a good 1/2 inch chuck drill ( or barrow one ) with a 4 inch millwake hole saw and also some soffit baffles and attic mask and suit to install. You really need all and I heard some people just drill the holes but you have to open up the bays and install those soffit baffles. The only downside is they are not available in stores

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for venting baths This vinyl vent is designed for placing in sofit areas or exterior walls to terminate a 4" duct and has a bug screen to prevent insects from entering from the outside. It also has good collar to use a metal band to ensure a tight fit of the duct.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice and round The 4" round soffit vent was purchased to fit into a 4" hole left when we removed a 4" electrical box from a customer's soffit. It worked, what else can I say about a 4" round soffit vent except that it is nice an round and really white and made out of plastic which is better than if it was made of paper or cardboard since either of them would disintegrate when they got wet from rain. It was light enough for only one person to lift and install and the box it came in was useful for collecting scraps of garbage. All in all it was probably the best 4" soffit vent I've ever installed. If Home Depot asks me to rate it again in a few years, I'll probably be able to say how well it lasted (or not). I'm really privileged to be able to rate products that should last years only 2 days after I buy them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does what it is supposed to Used a hole saw to make the soffit hole, attached the flex hose from the outside to the cap, added a ring of caulk, and pressed into place. Perfect for the application of venting a bath fan. Note that an inline backdraft damper is required. Excellent value for the $$$. I have 3 installed on my house without issue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good vent however not sold in stores This is a really good vent, however it took a long time for in store pickup and would have been nice to just have them locally available. One thing that others did not mention - I thought this would have a finer mesh screen for keeping bugs out but the mesh is just as pictured - plastic .050" square holes. Works good would buy again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fits in a tight space This is exactly what I needed to vent a bathroom exhaust fan through the soffit. I have no attic space and this worked out just fine. I put a little screen on the inside prior to install.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Just what I needed Vents were installed with no issues, received timely as they were special order products, great service at the store on arrival!
