Product Overview

The Sportsman Propane 1,350/2,000-Watt Portable Generator can power common household appliances and power tools. It is equipped with a single 120-Volt outlet and a 12-Volt DC outlet for battery charging. This recoil start generator can run for 12 hours with a 50% load on 20 lbs. of propane fuel. A generator of this size is ideal for small camping or tailgating parties or to have on hand in case you need some temporary power in an emergency situation. It has a 2.8 HP 4-Stroke OHV Recoil Start engine. It's affordable but well thought out with full featured options such as Automatic Low Oil Shutdown and Circuit Protection. It boasts an engine run time of 12 hours at 50% on a common 20 lb. (gas grill type) cylinder (LPG cylinder not included). A 5 ft. propane fuel hose with a regulator is included for your added convenience. The engine is surprisingly quiet; it runs at less than 65 dB. This is a great generator for anyone who needs affordable power. Propane has several distinct advantages over gasoline generators. Propane burns cleaner than gas engines. Carbon monoxide emissions run up to 40% lower. Propane will not degrade, so you can keep several propane tanks on hand for emergencies and store them for an unlimited amount of time. Since this generator runs on propane you never have to worry about the fuel going bad or having the carburetor getting fouled due to degenerated gasoline, a common problem with gasoline powered small engines.

Customer Questions & Answers

Can this be used for a small one bedroom apt?

Asked by: Roxysmom
It will all depend on what you run on it. It will certainly handle lights, refrigerator, television and small appliances. Cooking appliances would probably not work with other things on but might work alone if not over 1500 W.

how long does one 5 gallon tank last constantly running

Asked by: outlaw844
The answer depends upon both the size (capacity) of the generator and the percentage of that capacity that is being used. As a general rule, however, the answer about continuous operation is (1) you're going to go broke and (2) you're going to burn up the generator.

Customer Reviews

2,000-Watt Clean Burning LPG Propane Gas Powered Portable Generator is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 60.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of Time and Money I have bought both the gasoline and popane versions of this generator for use in my work. The propane model had to be started with a cordless hand drill because the entire pully assembly broke. The gasoline model's generator dropped to about 90 volts AC after a few months' use. I have wasted so much time and money on generators of varous makes and models that I am now using solar panels in series to produce from 20 to 40v DC (depending upon sunlight) and stepping that down to 12v DC using a transformer. It apears to me that most generators are made by very few OEM suppliers from China (even B&S) and that the quality is about as bad as it gets. I've gone solid state and have no plans to change back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding performance! This is the best generator I have ever owned! It is soooo quiet! I can actually hold a conversation with my wife while standing right next to it while it is running! Also it don't put off the stinky smell that gas generators do. I bought this unit to run a 5,000 BTU A/C unit on my small camper and it runs it with no problems. Be sure you stop and pick up some 10w-30 motor oil for it though because it does not come with any oil in it. It does come with the propane hose and a 12v cord that plugs into it so that you can charge a battery. I also recommend getting a propane gauge for your propane tank so you can keep up with how much propane is in the tank. I am very proud of this generator and I am so glad I bought it instead of a gas one.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not bad for the price. I have ran the Generator for a hour, so I can only give a small amount of info on it. Overall looks to be built well. I had no problems starting it. Took 5 or 6 pulls for the first start. After it was warm it only took 2 pulls to start. It is a little loud, but not bad. Ran a skill saw and cut a 2 x 4, worked fine for that. Put a 1300 watt heater to it, did not work for that. It turned on but the fan was turning slow. This unit is a 2000 surge watt with 1350 run watts. It should work fine on a refrigerator, and a few lights. The best part is it runs on propane. You can store propane for a long time, it travels well, unlike gas. Little heavy for my wife to move, but she can lift it and move it. They want to run 10w 30. It said not to put synthetic oil in it. Not sure why. I might give it a try after I break it in. So far so good. For the price, it is not bad.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from failed to work the first time followed easy instructions included - new tank of propane - it started right up It died after 1 minute and never started again -called the 800 number on it The told me first to put starting fluid in it - then on to instructions for small disassemble repair - I said maybe I should just take it back due to these complications - they said have a nice day and hung up maybe they're good generators maybe not - I guess I won't know

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Still starts and runs well I wrote the first review of this generator on this site. I've run it several night during deer seasons in 2010 and 2011 and on a few other occasions. i cranked it up Nov. 2, 2012 and it ran well. Went 12 hours or so on less than half a bottle of propane. My only maintenance has been annual oil changes. I did find a voltage filter at Fry's so my hunting buddy can run his CPAP machine and I can feel more comfortable plugging in other expensive electronics. (And the pictures from my trail camera look better on my notebook computer than on some dinky viewer.) When it is in use, I have it in a plastic dog house. The roof comes off easily for getting it in or out. Next thing is to get a long 15 amp extension cord and move it away from my shack. That will reduce the noise a lot. Meanwhile, I spent $100 plus on getting my in-town gasoline generator running again. Let the gasoline get old ... not a problem with propane. I've upped my rating of this propane generator to five stars.
