Did I mis-read the manual? I'm trying to find 10w-30 conventional non-detergent oil for this generator and I can't find it anywhere.

Asked by: docevans
Mine says 10W30 HD (high detergent) It also says NOT to use synthetic oil.

Product has done exactly what it was supposed to do: Work after sitting without worrying about nasty gas. After owning it for two years I finally had to use it.....and it worked like a charm for over 24 hours after a storm.

Started on arrival and a couple times since then just to verify it was serviceable. Had to use following Hurricane Irma in 2017. After 30 minutes of operation I saw a puddle of oil under unit and shut if off. The rubber valve cover gasket was not sealing properly. Tried to order replacement gasket with no luck due to inadequate customer service from Buffalo Tools. Poor design to use rubber gasket in high-heat area. Spent a couple hours on line and found site called Generator Guru and ordered part from them. Waiting for delivery of gasket but not optimistic about future durability of this generator.

I did contact customer service and they took care of the issues quickly. Once that was resolved I was going to put oil in it and start it up but when I went to move it the handle ripped out of where it was welded to the frame. I returned it to the store in hopes of ordering a replacement but they had very few generators left in stock and none with the features I desired. So back to square one I may have been better off working with the warrantee instead of returning it. Average rating is based on customer service as I never turned it on to see if it met my needs. I am sure it would have worked fine.

I have a 500 gallon buried propane tank and wanted to be ready for the next Florida hurricane. My old generator was gasoline and having to find, haul and store lots of gasoline before a storm is a pain. Cranking on the old pull start was also not fun. So I purchased the 7000 watt Propane Sportsman generator with key start. After receiving the generator I purchased the oil and battery (not included) for about $100. Then, I had my propane gas company install a new regulator on the house ($250). Assembly was not bad. All went smooth and generator started on 2nd or 3rd try. The directions are not the best and should be re-done. I am happy with the generator and am ready for the next hurricane. For the money, it is good insurance and worth considering this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would recommend this generator to anyone that wants... I would recommend this generator to anyone that wants a dependable, efficient, well made, source of emergency power! You will have no concerns about bad fuel since LPG is manmade and will last indefinitely! This unit is large enough to run the major items of your home, with a few extras, during an outage! For a few hundred $, you can purchase the needed electrical parts that you will need to connect it to your main breaker box! You will need a LPG tank, battery, oil, an interlock switch ( made for your specific breaker box), an outside outlet, a dual 30 amp breaker, a proper extension, most of these items can be found on-line at Home Depot! If you are not trained, have an electrician install parts! We all hope that we won't need insurance, but, are great-full that we did, it is worth the $!!

In the wake of Hurricane Irma it was a relief to receive our generator just a few hours before we lost power, HOWEVER, it was frightening to find out 1 side of receptacles does not work....Thank Goodness we were able to combine some items into 1 or 2 that needed to be saved.....We are now in process of seeing what the warranty plans to do about the receptacle.. Hopefully they will just send a repairman since it seems to be something minor (but could have been a BIG Issue if we had needed more power)...The Generator cranked right away and it was NICE not to smell gas fumes....Hoping it would have run quieter but just as loud as a gas unit according to my husband... If we get good service on the receptacle repair then I would rate a 5 & recommend........If NOT it will be a thumbs down on this new product....
