Product Overview

The Sportsman Series 6000/7500-Watt Dual Fuel Generator can power common major household appliances and power tools and provide emergency power during blackouts. It's great for running the RV while out on the road, or for keeping essential appliances going during a power outage with either regular gasoline or LPG (liquid propane gas). The 6.2 Gal. gas tank allows the unit to run on 87 octane gasoline for up to nine hours (at 50% load). You can also simply connect a typical gas grill 20 lb. cylinder to the unit with the supplied hose. The benefit of LPG is you will never experience a no-run situation due to bad gas again. With 7500 peak / 6000 rated watt, this powerful generator can handle the needs of most contractors, homeowners and recreational activities. Use the generator right out of the box with the recoil start or install a motorcycle battery (not included) to activate the electric start feature. The generator boasts an engine run time of nine hours at 50% on a common 20 lb. (gas grill type) cylinder (LPG cylinder not included) or 6.2 Gal. of unleaded gasoline. A 5 ft. propane fuel hose with a regulator is included for added convenience and the 13 HP engine is surprisingly quiet, running at less than 80 dB.

Customer Questions & Answers

what manufacturer is the engine and is battery included?

Asked by: Rob
The manufacturer is Buffalo Tools Lawn & Garden, and is manufactured in China. Battery is not included but recommends a motorcycle battery. (can't use a car battery, or you'll change batteries more often because of cranking initial power requirements). Cannot use Natural gas (just mentioned though it does use LPG).

What is the battery used for

Asked by: Jazzy
The battery allows you to use the electric start. The range of batteries you can use is wide so you don't have to buy a proprietary product at an inflated cost.

Can it run a 5000btu air conditioner? And for how long?

Asked by: ray
Check the data plate on the air conditioner, that will be where you find the amperage rating of the unit. Typically, that size AC requires a 20 amp circuit, so yes, it will run an AC that size. The specs on the generator states it will run about 9 hours on gasoline and 6 hours on LPG.

7,500-Watt Dual Fuel Powered Portable Generator with Electric Start and Runs on LPG or Regular Gasoline is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 203.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sportsman 6000 Generator I purchased this exact generator 7 years ago when I moved to the beach. I had not had occasion to use it until Hurricane Matthew struck this summer. I was out of power for ten days. Rolled it out of the garage, filled it with gas and oil and it started on first pull every day! I had enough power to run my refrigerator, freezer, big screen TV, 2 lamps, my modem/ router and room to plug in more if I needed. Outstanding service from this product. Best purchase I ever made. Could charge my devices and lost no food as all of my neighbors did. Can not say enough good things about this generator! ..Jill in Myrtle Beach SC

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding! I purchased this generator a couple of years ago, and finally!.... After Hurricane Matthew, I got my return on investment, and it was worth every penny! This generator has never had a drop of gasoline in the tank. I purchased this unit because it was the largest portable generator I could find, that ran on propane, and that is exactly what I wanted. No worries about gas going bad in the tank and gumming up the carb, nor did I have to worry about long-term gasoline storage issues, or running to the gas pumps like everyone else when the hurricane is approaching. Propane does not go bad. I've been stocking up on 20lb propane tanks (I'm sure I'm on a government watch list somewhere now), with the intent of holding out for 2 weeks in an off-grid situation. My prep plan was based on the advertised, 'will run for 8 hours on a 20 lb tank at half load'. I have to run 2 refrigerators and a chest freezer, plus the well pump, as essential needs. My plan was to run the generator for 1 hour, and rest for 3 hours. This would give me a day (24hrs) on one, 20lb tank. Apparently, I am drawing more than half load (3000k watts) because I was only getting 6 hours of run time out of a tank. This was a good test run, and I see that I will need to buy more tanks and propane to hold my goal of running 14 days. Ultimately, we only had to run 3 days without grid power. When we realized it would be a fairly short-lived event for us, we pulled the camper next to the house and plugged it into the generator, drawing 30 amps, and ran nearly constantly. Now we had hot showers and TV. This generator ran like a champ. My only 'down' comment would be that the beast is loud. Really loud. But that is a minor inconvenience that you forget about when you have lights and hot water. Buy this generator, stock up on propane, and buy some good quality, heavy-duty, extension cords (or get the transfer switch installed in your house).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from sportsman generator this unit arrived without damage. (the first unit had shipping damage and had to be returned) When adding oil as required prior to starting, I had oil overflow well before adding the required amount. Called the mfger. and was told that the oil was probably not fully drained after factory checkout. The unit started with one pull, ran fine, and had output in all receptacles. Loud but as expected. Hope to never have to use it, but now ready for the next power outage.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst purchase ever We picked up the generator from Home Depot brought in an electrician to set it up. The generator was damaged, starter didn't work and the oil leaked all over the driveway. We called the number on the generator for support they were so rude and nothing helpful to say. Enough said.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't order it First of all it arrived in a damaged box with holes. It wouldn't hold a charge and would surge. The company wanted us to "work on it" by "adjusting the governor screw etc". For the price you pay,it should work when you get it. We returned it through Home Depot, who were extremely accommodating. We then ordered a 10,000watt Duromax duel fuel and it arrived in excellent condition. Works great!

No damage to unit when unpacked, despite several rips and indentations in packing carton. Assembly directions were adequate. I plan to use only LPG to avoid storage concerns with the current gasoline. Unit started on 2nd pull, ran flawlessly for about 15 minutes. Purchased a battery on Amazon. Had to change the cable connections from 'post' terminals to 'blade' terminals. Unit started within a few seconds when using the battery to start the unit. Again ran flawlessly for about 15 minutes. Had to purchase a 30 amp cord to connect unit to my Reliance Power Switch for using the generator for power in my house. Waiting for a storm that causes power outage. Recommended this specific model to several friends looking for a generator. I got it on sale at Home Depot on 12/31/16, almost half price, great deal.

I relied heavily on the reviews to buy and set up this generator so I am adding my own thoughts. It arrived at the store in good condition. No issues. One reviewer said to get a length of 1/2 inch clear flexible hose for putting in oil. Good advice. I clamped a 14 inch length of the hose to a funnel and it makes adding / changing oil a breeze. I took out the drain plug to make sure the oil pan was empty and then added 38 ounces of 10W30. Use high detergent. Another reviewer recommended the Sigmas Tek STZ10S battery from BatterySharks. I ordered one and it's perfect. The connectors on the generator are a little small for the bolt that comes with the battery. Ream out the connector with a Dremel grinder. Two minute job. It came a little under charged so I charged it before installation. I only used propane and don't intend to use gas except for an emergency. Runs great. You should not try to draw more than 20 amps from either of the pair of AC plugs, so I bought two 50 foot Rigid 12 gauge extension cords so I could draw power from both pairs of plugs at the same time. The cord is more flexible than some other brands and has lighted plug ends so you know when they are hot. I plugged my 30 watt RV connector into the generator and it easily powered everything including AC, microwave etc. So within days of getting it all ready we had a thunder storm and our power was out for two days. (Unbelievable right? But true). I have 4 propane tanks and had no problem. They say the gen is 80 decibels. It's more. I built a portable gen hut with plywood to keep it dry and reduce noise. It helped. We powered the frig, used the microwave, toaster, hot plate and ran a few lights. Didn't use a heater but I'm sure we could have. Plenty of power for our needs. Important lesson- I didn't check the oil in the first 24 hours. Mistake. The low-oil auto shut off kicked in gradually and the generator started running unevenly. I shut it down, added quite a bit of oil and it started right back up. So it uses oil. Check it often. When the power came back I changed the oil and tested it. Ran great. I sewed up a cover from a cloth painters drop cloth.

Pull started on the first pull every time that I have started it, whether the first start up or just getting it going again after a refuel. Snowed in, having gone through the 15 gallons I had on hand, now I have it hooked to the propane bottle from the side of my house :) Doesn't seem to use oil, and doesn't dirty it up too quick. Electricity is clean, it is the right frequency and voltage. It is already the most useful and dependable generator that i have ever owned.
