Product Overview

The Sportsman Series 6000/7500-Watt Dual Fuel Generator can power common major household appliances and power tools and provide emergency power during blackouts. It's great for running the RV while out on the road, or for keeping essential appliances going during a power outage with either regular gasoline or LPG (liquid propane gas). The 6.2 Gal. gas tank allows the unit to run on 87 octane gasoline for up to nine hours (at 50% load). You can also simply connect a typical gas grill 20 lb. cylinder to the unit with the supplied hose. The benefit of LPG is you will never experience a no-run situation due to bad gas again. With 7500 peak / 6000 rated watt, this powerful generator can handle the needs of most contractors, homeowners and recreational activities. Use the generator right out of the box with the recoil start or install a motorcycle battery (not included) to activate the electric start feature. The generator boasts an engine run time of nine hours at 50% on a common 20 lb. (gas grill type) cylinder (LPG cylinder not included) or 6.2 Gal. of unleaded gasoline. A 5 ft. propane fuel hose with a regulator is included for added convenience and the 13 HP engine is surprisingly quiet, running at less than 80 dB.

Answer:
Yes, you should be able to run your computer on it, but make sure you use a quality surge protector outlet strip. If you're using the generator as an emergency power back up, don't expect to get to the internet unless your cable or telephone lines are active.

Answer:
This generator can do, on propane, the same thing it can do on Gasoline. I personally would not run the 7500 generator for two days straight, even though it would handle it. I would give it a rest, maybe 1/2 hour to cool down, every 8 hours or so. Don't open the refrigerator or freezer at the shutdown time.

Given that this is a portable generator, it is not intended to run for days on end without any down time. While I'm sure that it could handle it in the case of an emergency, it is not a backup generator intended to be used for days at a time without a break. Easy way to tell this is to look at the number of hours the generator you are looking at can go between oil changes. Also, if it doesn't have an oil Read More

Easy way to tell this is to look at the number of hours the generator you are looking at can go between oil changes. Also, if it doesn't have an oil pump, and oil filter, you probably don't want to run it for extended periods. I love the generator for the construction sites I use it on, and as a back up when power goes out for a few hours, but wouldn't plan to live life running on it for days at a time. Read Less

There is no reason why the generators cannot keep running as long as fuel source is provided. Rest time between usage is also recommended. Thank you.

Answer:
Both systems start very easy on their own. I start mine with a key and it starts with in 5-10 seconds. Switching to propane there is about a 2 minute transition period to where the generator is running at a low rpm and then levels out to normal running. Switching back to gas is a bit faster. Going back and forth is a matter of a switch. I hope this helps Rob.

I see no brand name printed on the engine or referred to in the literature that accompanied the machine. The users manual does contain a very detailed parts list that includes an exploded parts view of the engine and generator components, which suggests to me that the generator manufacturer also manufacturers the engine. Obviously, this is speculation on my part. If this is a critical concern to you, you may wish to contact the manufacturer directly. The customer service number listed in the manual is 866-460-9436 (M-F, 8A - 4P, CST).
A battery is not included, but is readily available from the manufacturer or other retailers. As a practical matter, the battery you purchase should not exceed the manufacturer dimension specifications, since the battery "compartment" (it is a steel flat platform welded to the frame) has limited clearance. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by sportsman generator this unit arrived without damage. (the first unit had shipping damage and had to be returned) When adding oil as required prior to starting, I had oil overflow well before adding the required amount. Called the mfger. and was told that the oil was probably not fully drained after factory checkout. The unit started with one pull, ran fine, and had output in all receptacles. Loud but as expected. Hope to never have to use it, but now ready for the next power outage. October 14, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Would like to know how it runs! I ordered the generator on line, so far I have received one that had damage to the generator itself so I returned it and had another one ordered. The second one came in with damage to the case of the motor so I returned it also. In both cases there was no damage to the box. The damage had to be done prior to the units being packaged at the factory. The third machine is on it's way now. We will see if it is damaged when I have the folks at Home Depot un-box it at the store, if it looks OK I will take it home and see how it runs. April 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Outstanding! I purchased this generator a couple of years ago, and finally!.... After Hurricane Matthew, I got my return on investment, and it was worth every penny! This generator has never had a drop of gasoline in the tank. I purchased this unit because it was the largest portable generator I could find, that ran on propane, and that is exactly what I wanted. No worries about gas going bad in the tank and gumming up the carb, nor did I have to worry about long-term gasoline storage issues, or running to the gas pumps like everyone else when the hurricane is approaching. Propane does not go bad. I've been stocking up on 20lb propane tanks (I'm sure I'm on a government watch list somewhere now), with the intent of holding out for 2 weeks in an off-grid situation. My prep plan was based on the advertised, 'will run for 8 hours on a 20 lb tank at half load'. I have to run 2 refrigerators and a chest freezer, plus the well pump, as essential needs. My plan was to run the generator for 1 hour, and rest for 3 hours. This would give me a day (24hrs) on one, 20lb tank. Apparently, I am drawing more than half load (3000k watts) because I was only getting 6 hours of run time out of a tank. This was a good test run, and I see that I will need to buy more tanks and propane to hold my goal of running 14 days. Ultimately, we only had to run 3 days without grid power. When we realized it would be a fairly short-lived event for us, we pulled the camper next to the house and plugged it into the generator, drawing 30 amps, and ran nearly constantly. Now we had hot showers and TV. This generator ran like a champ. My only 'down' comment would be that the beast is loud. Really loud. But that is a minor inconvenience that you forget about when you have lights and hot water. Buy this generator, stock up on propane, and buy some good quality, heavy-duty, extension cords (or get the transfer switch installed in your house). October 18, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Easy to prep for use. Started on the second pull. Dual fuel choice is a definite plus. Worked flawlessly during recent power outage due to hurricane Matthew October 11, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Power for all my tools away from home Out on the farm with no electric this generator is a must, runs all my tools and the well at home when the town power is out, and that's often. My portable air compressor loves it. That's a tire getting air in the photo. I like all the 120 vt plugs and the battery charger. Robert May 3, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worst purchase ever We picked up the generator from Home Depot brought in an electrician to set it up. The generator was damaged, starter didn't work and the oil leaked all over the driveway. We called the number on the generator for support they were so rude and nothing helpful to say. Enough said. September 27, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent piece of equipment!! Started on 1st pull and 1st electric start. Also ran excellent on LPG. Ran better than I had imagined. Hooked up on 2 110v campers and didn't hardly put a load on it. Let it run 1 night til it ran out of gas. Filled it up and started on 1st pull. The noise wasn't that bad either. Was able to sleep without any problem. All in all it was an excellent 4 day camping trip. Would highly recommend it to anyone!! Was well built and flawless out of the box. Great features and ease of plugging in different power sources as well as operation. different Thanks for an excellent running machine!! June 21, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Best Generator The little bit of assembly was very easy. Before I installed a battery. The generator stated on the second pull on the rope. Very impressive, to me. July 14, 2016
