Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Simple, not expensive alternative to manual trasfer switch when you know how of adequatly distribute house loads to portable generator. A safe and inexpensive alternative to installing a manual transfer switch for portable generators to prevent potentially dangerous back feed to the Utility's Electrical Distribution System. It took me about 1 hr to carefully install the manual lockout. Supplied drilling template and instructions were spot on. Operational instructions and decals were clear and concise. Also saved money purchasing from HD rather than local Electrical supply although I ordered from them first and never received a call for pickup. Since I worked on live conductors for a Utility Company splicing up 750 MCM live, I felt comfortable working live but with caution. I don't recommend the same for the everyday DYI person. Personal Protective Equipment ( PPE ) is a must. March 10, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The easy way to connect gen power to a house. Getting an interlock kit like this that fits your house panel is the cheapest, cleanest, and easiest way to get generator power to your house (that i've found). Obviously this one works just with it's brand & models of panels, but there's probably one from your panels OEM as well. You only add one cable into the panel (for the incoming gen power), so there isn't a spaghetti mess of wires added when you're done (as well as extra panels to confuse you later with what panel controls what circuits, etc). With this, you can send gen power to any house circuit you want even running some for a while, then rotating to others (versus having a very limited selection with add-on panels and nothing else besides that selection can ever be run). Just be careful about how many things you turn on at once while on gen power which you control from the breaker box (you may want to plan a system labeling certain breakers with color coded stickers or such to know what they run & how important are they). The cost of this and other parts needed can easily be less than that of the add-on panels alone. So I see nothing wrong with this and virtually everything I've heard like "You can easily overload your gen this way" can be countered with statements like "Anyone can plug in too many things at once, so you need to watch your loads regardless of your system". The only problems you may face is you need 2 extra breaker spaces & must free up the breaker spots at the top of the panel (spaces 2&4) for the gen breaker, it must go there. Also, the panels these go on must have a "Main" breaker at the top that disconnects all utility power, if you don't have that you can't set this up. If those aren't a problem, then this will be as easy as anything else to install and give you the most options for how to utilize your generator power when needed. May 26, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good, Simple Product I liked this inter-lock kit. It was easy to install it even give you the template to drill the holes. I opted for this over a transfer switch for two reasons: 1. The cost of the transfer switch and it's limited amount of circuits 2. The ability to turn on any breaker I want in my box to power up anything. The transfer switch limits you to how many circuits you can have or might want to use. May 19, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good Value The kit is as advertised and the directions very easy to follow. Installation took about 45 minutes, I'm slow, and the only additional items to purchase were the 3/32 and 3/16 inch drill bits. The price is reasonable compared to the much more expensive transfer switches and the configuration of this kit offers more available circuits as long as you keep demand within the output of your generator. Square D engineering is obvious in the simplicity of the interlock. I recommend this product April 3, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by very happy with product very easy install. template is very good. only thing that would be nice if it came with drill bit April 7, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by good interlock not much to say except its a part needed to hook up a generator to the power supply easy to instaff October 22, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best price and worked as expected HD had the best price for this item I could find on the Internet (by far). Quality of the item is good and it fit my electrical panel well as advertized. Value is rated average because the item is way over priced by the manufacturer so even at the best price around, the overall value is questionable for what it is. Its just a few fasteners and stamped sheet metal! May 7, 2013
