Are you allowed to splice the pigtail lead to get sufficient length to the ground bar? I want to replace a GFCI inline receptacle where I occasionally get nuisance tripping, but the standard breaker that feeds the receptacle is on the far side (right) of the load center. I would need to swap a standard breaker from the left with the breaker on the right to have the necessary length for the pigtail lead on the GFCI breaker. I have no empty spaces in the LC.
Asked by: WaltInPittsburgh
The NEC allows making splices within a panelboard. It is done all the time to lengthen and even combine wires from two circuits into one. Article 312.8 is where restrictions could apply (over-stuffing the gutters), but they would not in your case.

Is there a combination arc fault and GFCI breaker,or do I need to install a GFCI receptacle to add protection for an above the shower/bath exhaust fan

Asked by: bulldog
Square D makes a dual function AFCI/GFCI breaker, but unless you are on the 2014 NEC all you need is GFCI proctection. GFCI protection can be provided with either a GFCI receptacle or GFCI circuit breaker.

What can cause anti arc breaker to trip

Asked by: jim
Combination arc fault branch circuit breakers, when properly installed and wired, will trip on overload, short circuit, arcing across a break in hot or neutral conductor, arcing between the hot and neutral or ground, or the neutral and ground.

Homeline 15 Amp Single-Pole CAFCI Circuit Breaker is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reasonably Priced I'm not really thrilled that these Homeline AFCI's extend over and cover up the neutral bar when installed, but the combination of the Homeline panel and breakers made for the best value. Otherwise, they work as they should, and the brand is certainly one that you can trust.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well-built, affordable arc protection Square D HOM CAFCI breakers are a good value, well-built, easy-to-install, and work as advertised. Added them to a bedroom circuit with no problems. Has been installed about two weeks. Make sure the main breaker is off. Do pay close attention to the install instructions and be sure to install a matching black/white wire pair to the breaker. Do not wire or leave the load's white neutral wire on the panel neutral bar. Breaker's white, coiled, wire goes to the neutral bar. Breaker is easy to test for normal function by installing it without any wires and then pressing the test button. It should trip without a load. If it works properly, but trips with a load, the load has an arc, neutral/ground touching, etc. It is longer than a regular breaker so make sure you have room in the panel for the "overhang".
