Can I replace the 100 Amp breaker for a 150 Amp and the 30 Amp breaker for a 50 Amp breaker? Thank you.
Asked by: Md80
Honestly, I don't see why he can't swap out the 30A generator breaker for a 50A unit. The bus-bars in the box are already rated for 100A, so this should not be a problem, aside from replacing the 30A labeling with the appropriate 50A labeling. As for swapping out the 100A main breaker for a 150A unit, NO you cannot do this. Two reasons: 1) As previously stated, the bus-bars in the box are only rated for 100A; and, 2) Square-D does not make a 150A Main breaker in the stab-mount format.

Good Day! No. This device is UL listed and designed to be used with a generator through the generator flanged inlet at the bottom of the device. Can I replace the 30 amp breaker with a 2 pole 20?

Asked by: Jb
JB, yes you can replace the 30A with a 20A. You just cannot go over the 30A due to UL labeling. Thank you for your question. Schneider Electric Customer Care.

I was a little disappointed however at the gage of the wiring. It really not made to handle powering your whole home, but rather just a few general circuits (fridge, lights, maybe stove or AC) and thats it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Little Transfer Switch I bought a portable generator to provide power during a power outage. What a hassle running extension cords all over the house. I investigated transfer switches and saw a few interior "kits" ranging from $300 - $400. I wanted something exterior that would sit right next to my house panel. Somewhere on the internet someone mentioned that they bought this panel at The Home Depot and sure enough, there it was. This is a very cool device. Someone at Square D was thinking. They took a standard 100 amp 120/240 VAC load center and added two mechanically interlocked 2 pole 100 amp and 30 amp breakers,. Then they threw in a 30 amp twist lock plug with a flip cover. Nothing else to buy. All for about $130. I spent another $350 in pipe, wire, circuit breakers and misc stuff (straps, LB's, grounding bushing, etc.). Installation is not for the amateur (I am not an electrician, but I play one on TV). I only had one problem and it had to do with grounding. The frame of the generator is considered adequate grounding for anything plugged into the generator. However, once you "plug" it into your house system it must be grounded. Rather then tie it to your panel's ground, which probably has a bonded neutral, I drove a ground rod for an isolated ground. If this all sounds like mumbo-jumbo, call an electrician.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One-stop shopping! We lose power in our neighborhood all the time. I wanted a nice, neat, clean way to transfer the entire house from utility- to standby power with the flip of a single, well-located switch, preferably at the point where I plug in. I found this item at Homedepot.com after several tries to do it with separate components. Each time, I was well north of $300 for parts alone. Everything I wanted in was in one complete package: a WX-covered L14-30P twist-lock power inlet, 100A main- and 30A Generator breakers with mechanically-coupled safety interlock to prevent utility power-line back-feeding, and the capacity to power my entire house with one single connection, all in a code-approved outdoor enclosure so I could mount it right next to my meter. While I can't power everything at once, I can still power anything I need. THe City inspector was so impressed by how this connected, and wanted to know where to get one for himself! Someone at Square-D was definitely thinking with this one. Some Home Depot stores actually carry this item in stock, making an impromptu installation possible DURING a power outage if necessary. Great job Square-D AND Home Depot!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good but...... Quality product. Well built and able to do the job but not so well thought out. I needed to feed a sub panel which the panel does but getting #2 -100 amp wire around and beside the generator plug is not so easy. I needed to come through the side wall knockout to attach to my main breaker box and the generator plug is right in the way. The knockout is supposed to be 1.5 inches but is made in a way that it really is not that big. Panel works fine but could have been better designed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great Price This switch has a great price, it seems as thouigh it was a small breaker box that SQ D converted to a transfer switch. It does have the means to do the job and it does hook up fairly easily. Just a few changes in design would make it an exceptional value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best of both worlds The QO 100A with 30A Generator manual transfer switch works good as and in and out manual trasfer switch when you need to take over te complete load or as a transfer switch with load center when you can only support selected devices. Plus with a 30A twist lock receptacle it makes hooking up the generator very easy. I wish they made a similar product with a 60A receptacle and more circuits in the load center portion. Great product.
