Customer Questions & Answers

Will this work as a air compressor disconnect?

Asked by: Bjk
The missing information that would prompt this question is the HP rating. It is rated for 10 HP max so, in most cases, yes it would be a suitable disconnect for a compressor. The local AHJ would have the final say but I will be using it for that exact purpose on a true 5 HP compressor.

QO200TR Safety Disconnect

I have just purchased this disconnect to replace a faulty one on my air conditioner, can I get a wiring diagram for this model, there was not one with the item.
Asked by: Chuck
There should be 3 wires coming from the house; 1) a green or bare copper wire. 2) Two hot wires (black and red; or black and white with a red/black tape around it. There should be 3 wires coming in from the A/C whip. Connect the green wires or bare copper wires to the ground bar on the bottom of the box; secure these wires first. Connect the house wires to the two side terminals. Connect the two hot whip wires to the bottom of the switch. The polarity of the two hot wires is unimportant. I strongly recommend that you hire a licensed electrician to perform this work. There are no schematics; this is a fundamental device.

QO 60 Amp Not Fusible AC Disconnect Switch Does Not Provide Over Current Protection is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Disconnect Switch Replaced a similar switch that failed after about 10 years. This one was identical. A similar switch beside this one has not failed yet.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Hard seal and maintain accessability. I have used this device in three different application. Pros: It has a switchable disconnect that is easy to cycle and will not fall apart after 2 or 3 uses. Good value. Cons: Tight wiring clearances. It is hard to access the interior wiring if you seal the exterior surfaces. No top side wiring option.
