Product Overview

The Square D by Schneider Electric QO Qwik-Gard 20 Amp Two-Pole GFCI Circuit Breaker is intended for protection of entire branch circuits where damp-location shock hazards may exist, providing overload and short-circuit protection of your electrical system. The ANSI-certified and UL-listed unit is rated for 120/240 VAC and 10,000 AIR. All QO circuit breakers are equipped with the exclusive Visi-Trip indicator. When a QO Visit-Trip circuit breaker trips, the handle snaps to a midpoint position between "OFF" and "ON" and a highly visible, red indicator easily identifies the tripped breaker. This enables you to easily distinguish which breaker has tripped in a load center that may contain up to 42 different circuit breakers. QO circuit breakers have features no other manufacturer can offer. They come in many different sizes and can meet the needs of virtually every function in your home or business. These types of quality, industry exclusive products keep the Square D brand ahead of the competition and are builders' and electrical contractors' first choice in electrical protection.

Answer:
If the 'load' has a neutral, the Load Neutral (white wire) connects there. If 'load' does not require neutral, no connection is made. The Panel Neutral, 'pigtail', connects to panel's neutral bar. http://static.schneider-electric.us/docs/Circuit%20Protection/Miniature%20Circuit%20Breakers/QO-QOB%20Circuit%20Breakers/QO-GFI/48840-435-03.zip.pdf

When reviewing the circuits in our home we found this exact breaker in our panel and when turned off we have about 35 items, receptacles, lights, fans, etc that gets turned off. I was concerned there was a double lug, however when the paid electrician came in to do some work he told me this is like having, 2 20 amp controlled by one switch. Thereby 40 amps total 20 on one pole and 20 on the other and I should not be concerned. Is this true? The electrician told me it was just the way square D makes their breaker and to an untrained eye like me it can be confusing.

Answer:
QO220GFICP is a 20 Ampere breaker, not 40 Amperes total. The amperage of the poles is not added together. Please be aware that with QO220GFICP using shared neutral, anything connected could trip all that is connected.
