Product Overview

Whole House Surge Protective Devices (SPDs) are designed to deliver surge suppression that addresses the entire home. Surges can enter your home's electrical system externally (e.g. lightning or utility surges) or most often, can be generated within the home by other equipment and appliances. Point-of-use plug strips with surge suppression are good secondary suppressors for equipment that can be plugged-in. However, a primary Surge Protective Device (SPD), such as a Square D brand Whole House Surge breaker Plus installed at the load center, reduces large surges to manageable levels. Even more, it helps protect the thousands of dollars in equipment that can't be plugged into a plug strip (e.g. washer, dryer, HVAC, stove, dishwasher, refrigerator, lighting). Square D brand Whole House SPDs combine AC suppression with coaxial cable and telephone suppression in one product. These additional modules help protect systems and devices throughout the home from surges that come through telephone/DSL and cable/satellite video and data wires. The SDSB1175C is NEMA 1 rated for indoor applications. For indoor/outdoor applications, consider the SDSB1175R. It is the same product but in an enclosure that provides a NEMA 3R rating for indoor/outdoor applications. Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 14 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great surge protector After loosing TV's stereos and what not to a power surge I did my homework and purchased this, it installed easily and will hopefully pay for itself on the next lightning strike price wasn't bad and shipping was fast and free. August 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Should be worth it ! Delivered w/in 10 days. OK when received. Easy to install. Directions should be a little better. Should recommend installing a Big Breaker for it [ I used a 50 amp] Connecting to new breaker should be close as possible to input lugs. August 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Does the Job! Purchased from Home Depot in May of 2012, installed unit after a surge damaged my TV and Satellite box, which were plugged into a strip surge suppressor. Since it was installed and been through numerous storms and power outages I can say no damage to any equipment has occurred! After 4 years of service the green indicator lights are still on and it appears that this device is a winner! Unless you have electrical experience, I am a electrician, I would recommend you have a professional install the unit. While the cost of the unit is much higher than most surge suppressors, it would appear to be a great insurance "policy" for your electrical and electronic equipment. Highly Recommended! June 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome product I was told that this would be the only all house surge protector that you would ever need Not only does it protect your house but it also protects your (cable or satellite ) telephone systems anything that has digital electronics. attached. July 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Whole House Surge Protector After doing my homework this product proved superior in load shunting capability (80,000 VA). For the sake of the warranty I had a licensed electrician install unit (required), He was impressed with the Square "D" name, as it is a leader in the industry. Also note that the $75,000 insurance coverage only covers the deductible, if that is the lesser of the loss. This seems to be standard policy for the surge protection industry. When weighing the purchase warranty against other products note if they are only covering "motor driven appliances". Square "D" covers all equipment, including computers, TVs, etc. Note also that it was not recommended by my cable supplier to run the their line through the cable surge protector because there would be a loss in signal. My cable provider supplies me with phone, cable TV and internet (Comcast),all on the same line. Since I now enjoy 50mbs download speed I was reluctant to compromise my signal. They said if the house is properly grounded I should be protected. We'll see about that. November 4, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Usefulness Remains To Be Proven Ratings predicated upon this device, installed professionally by my electrician, protecting the electronics in my home from a power surge. For now, it is only an expensive metal box with two green glowing lights that is mounted to the left of my Square-D breaker panel. August 27, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good features for a decent price Took off one star because the clearances inside are too tight. Very difficult to plug in coax from the bottom knockouts (like the instructions say to do). If you put a cable clamp in the side knockout, the threads on it will push the entire mounting plate to the other side. If Square D made the housing just a little bigger (1/4 inch on each side and 1 inch on bottom) it would be perfect. Other than that it is a great value and buys peace of mind for protecting your electronics and appliances. July 10, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by GOOD PRODUCT FOR A FAIR PRICE I had the previous version of this installed and it mediated a power surge thus necessitating its replacement. Unfortunately, the new versions physical dimensions are incompatible with the old versions metal cabinet and the whole unit must be replaced rather than just the AC module. So if your version did not come with the HEPD80 AC module prepare yourself to open the wall and replace the entire surge protector unit. August 6, 2013
