Our brand new hardwood floors had two areas of significant cracking. The flooring person used this kit to tightent he floorboards. The creeks are virtually all gone, but there are rows of these screws! should they have put putty on the holes or not? Should I stain the screw holes or is there something to lessen the look of a row of screws in my new floor?

Answer:
Hello Sharon,
You can fill the holes with wood putty. Either buy colored wood putty that closely matches the color of your floor or buy stainable wood putty.

Above floor. The screws are scribed above threads and the provided jig allows you to sink them to the proper level so that they snap off flush with the underlayment. I have yet to have one that could be felt under my carpet after installation.

As for later exposing the hardwood floor, the instructions in the kit show it being used for hardwood floors so I believe the shank of the screw (even when installed over carpet) would be flush with the hardwood. However, if possible I would certainly try it first in an area such as a closet where you could possibly lift a small section of carpet and verify that the head was flush with the flooring. Read Less

Yes. It should countersink the screws into the wood, so you may need to fill the holes with putty once exposed, but it can certainly be done.

Answer:
There are 50 screws plus 2 long joist "locator" screws. I found that you need about 3 per joist covering 2-3 joists. (Depending on the size of your "squeaky" area of course.)

Rated 3.6 out of 5 by 17 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Don't believe the videos! We had a squeaky floor just inside a bedroom door. It drove me crazy but because the floor was carpeted I didn't think much could be done. I researched the Internet and kept in finding this product. I watched EVERY video about the product before finally deciding to buy it. What a joke! I found our floor joists and began the process of placing a screw about every 3 inches down the length of the joist. I put screws in the joists that ran along both sides of the squeaky area. NOTHING changed! My husband said the product would never work and I was sure to prove him wrong. This product is praised on videos, but don't fall for it. If the company is so sure of this product they should offer a satisfaction guarantee... June 29, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Worked on our horrible floor. I was hesitant to use this based on some reviews and also the product literature states it may not fix all squeaks. Our carpet covered floor was so bad that you could feel the floor move up and down. I followed the instructions and much to my surprise, it worked. The nail heads break off very easy, and can't tell they are under the carpet. Thumbs up for me. June 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Worked great! It worked great for me. It definitely takes some finesse and knowledge. First, you have to able to locate the floor joists. That is the most critical step. Once I located the floor joists, I marked them out with a string line and blue tape, to make sure I didn't miss them. I was able to successfully silence about 5 major squeeks in an upstairs bedroom. I used this product right through the carpet, just like the instructions said. If you're a pretty competent handyman, this product should work for you. If you're not too good with tools and things, then you're probably going to struggle with this. Worked good for me, though. May 1, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by It works!!!!! Easy to use and fixed my floor squeak super fast. This repair kit is for real. Very happy with the purchase. June 7, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Didn't Work for Us We followed the instruction to a tee on a hallway of a carpeted area, following the video done by the person who developed this product and a "This Old House" video. Both were very helpful. With these instructions we found the joists and screwed in 30 of the specialty screws. We still had the hallway squeaks-no change whatsoever. We even put six screws only inches away from each other on one joist Still the squeaks. We focused on the squeaky areas. Still the squeaks. We had high hopes for this DIY project. It just didn't work for us. Our house is 30 years old. April 16, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Squeeeeek No MoreFloor Repair Kit I give this product a 'Good' rating because the product was very easy to use, the directions are clear and easy to follow, the screws penetrate the carpets well and the heads snap off with no sharp bits left behind - exactly as advertised. Everything you need to stop squeaky floors is included in the kit. I had no problem finding the floor joists using the 'floor joist finder screw' provided in the kit. The screws used to secure the sub-floor to the joists penetrated the carpet with ease, and did secure the sub-floor to the joists. The heads of the screws were easy to snap off using the included tool. You cannot feel the screws at all, the screw heads snapped off clean. There was no hole or visible sign where the screws went through the carpet. The product performed very well and as promised. All of that is great, however my floor squeak was not eliminated. But the Squeeek No More product is NOT to blame. My townhouse was built in the 1970's so the floors have had plenty of time to 'loosen up'. The Squeeek No More repair kit (I believe) works best on a floor that is not as old as my floor. In other words, catch the problem before it becomes to big to fix. The older the floor, the greater the sub-floor and joist separation so the harder to stop the squeak. The Squeeek No More kit performed as advertised - some of my problem squeak WAS reduced. But in order to eliminate the problem completely, I would have had to address the problem many years ago. The issue is my floor - NOT the product. All in all I think this is a great product that works when used on a floor that is not beyond help. I'm glad I tried it and I would recommend this product. May 3, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by It did nothing. The instructions were clean . I found my joists which where about 11-12 inches apart. I placed my screws about 3 inches apart in the squeakiest areas of the room. I used almost the entire pack of screw it came with. It did not remove the squeak at all. March 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works great on loose sub-floor (plywood or OSB) squeaks! I have used this product since 1994! It works great on loose sub-floor (plywood or OSB) squeaks! I use #10 bright finish nails through the carpet and pad to find the joist/truss, then pull them out This leaves a nice pilot hole in the carpet. I use blue painter's tape to hold the carpet nap back so the screw doesn't grab the carpet and damage it. As someone stated earlier you can pull back the carpet and pad then just use screws, but if the room has a lot of furniture this is a fast alternative! February 11, 2016
