My hardwood floors are 60 years old and there are a few spots that are pretty squeaky. I tried to fix them using finish nails, but they didn't hold terribly well. The counter-snap screws work very well almost all of the time (I have a problem with around 1 in 10 screws). I wish they were 1/4"-1/2" shorter because my floors are laid over a slab, and every once in a while a screw hits the slab and snaps off early. It's easy to back it out using a pair of vice grips, but it's still annoying. They do hold exceptionally well, and they took care of my squeaks. The hole that's left behind after the head snaps off really does look that of a finish nail.

Amazing product. Don't forget to drill a pilot hole. That's probably why it didn't work for other people.

The kit consists of special screws with opposing threaded sections and a scored neck, a special drill bit that fits the depression in the screw head and a jig to gauge when the score on the screw shaft is 1/8 inch below the floorboard surface. The idea is that the double threaded screw pulls together the squeaky floorboard and sub-flooring then is broken off with enough of a space left for wood putty. Perhaps I don't have the hand strength of the man doing the video, but I was unable to snap off the top of the screw using the jig. This was not a problem, I eliminated the jig and then was able to visually see how far I drove the screw in and more easily snapped ti off at the score without the jig.

I had trouble with the screw heads snapping off, so I had to use the tool to break them off manually. My floor is definitely better, but I wish it were even less squeaky; some of the places I screwed still seem to be squeaking some, though this may just be a function of my floor rather than the product's fault. Still looking for a more complete solution.

The product is provided with an object that seems to be intended to assist in setting the depth to which the screw is inserted. In fact, it is not clear that it helps, and in a couple of cases, the force necessary to break off the head of the screw was sufficient to mar the hardwood floor under it. In the end, I stopped using the guide and eyeballed the depth of the screw, and used a vise-grip to snap off the top of the screw. I have had the screws in place for several weeks, and the squeaks have not returned, so that part works. I recommend this product because it seems to be the only one like it on the market.
