Customer Questions & Answers

Is this edible for pets?

I'm scared my cats will lick it. What will happen? What about walking on it? What if it got breathed in accidently? Help!
Asked by: catsanddogs1
Just spoke with my vet because I was considering using this product in my home. She said she is not comfortable with it being used in homes with cats. If they ingest enough it will do harm. Cats will lick it off their paws if they walk through it.

does this kill bed bugs

Asked by: april
Yes, as long as you get "food grade." Type in diatomaceous earth in search., a selection" how to clean up diatomaceous earth" and will explain how to use it.

Is this product approved by the FDA like other food grade for human consumption

Asked by: Susie
No. It is not. Do not ingest this. St Gabriel, walmart and other retailers sell smaller, usually a little more costly bags, clearly labeled FOOD GRADE. This particular bag IS NOT food grade!

Does it kill roaches?

I've done everything I know to kill off roaches that we brought in with cardboard boxes a while back. I have pets and don't want to use chemicals. Has anyone had success using this?
Asked by: ppmharley
Yes, it will kill anything with an exoskeleton. However, roaches can live a week to 10 days without their heads. So, expect it to take about as long for the DE to kill the live roaches. I would suggest using the DE for at least a month for a roach problem.

Very disappointed b/c on the website it stated I was ordering Food Grade DE but it turns out it was not the food grade but the normal grade. I had to contact corporate office whom since have changed the website so it didn't reflect that the product was food grade. I couldn't believe no one noticed

When I ordered this, it was labeled Food Grade in the heading, 100% Diatomaceous Earth in the Bullet Points, and 100% Diatomaceous Earth in the Product Overview. What arrived was non-food grade, 85% Diatomaceous Earth, with first aid warnings on the label on what to do if consumed, breathed, on skin or clothing, or in eyes. As of this writing, they have removed the Food Grade from the heading, but still have it listed as 100% DE in the Bullet Points and Product Overview. They also have kept the Questions and Reviews for the Food Grade version of this product. Home Depot needs to separate the two products as they are different. In conclusion, if you don't have small children or pets that might come in contact with this product and lick their paws, by all means, get this stuff and use it as you would any other powdered insect killer. Otherwise, I would recommend you continue your search and verify that it is actually 100% Food Grade that you will be receiving. In the end, I decided to keep what I ordered to use outside.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Wrong product It's advertised as food grade. It is not food grade . Warning label on the back of package said harmful to humans and domestic animals!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fantastic... Well I brought this because of the scare of getting a infestation of bed bugs. I don't have them and I don't want them. So I cleaned the house and put this powder down everywhere. Cracks, crevices, bed, rail, around the wheels, in corners of drawers. Too my surprise it kills roaches. Came home from work & all around the baseboards were DEAD roaches. Its been almost two weeks and still no sight of no roaches & no bed bugs. I'm gonna put this powder down once a month to avoid and kind of pests. I used a empty baby powder bottle, a paint brush, and a jar with a spout on it to help me put the powder in the different places. Use a mask

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Diatomaceous Earth Organic Product works great! I am so satisfied with this product. I had an overnight bed-bug infestation after I acquired a new house guest. The bed bugs were like little nasty vampires sucking our blood in the wee hours of the night. I got sooooo tired of losing sleep and being on the verge on insanity. I spent hundreds of dollars on extermination fees and do it yourself bed bug kits…nothing seemed to work until I tried this wonderful product. I placed this product everywhere in my house, the couches, baseboards and I even gave some to my neighbors since we all stay in the same condo unit. I have not seen a bed bug in my home in weeks.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Mislabeled I ordered this item in the store with the help of a home depot associate. I personally chose this one from the site myself, because online it was labeled as food-grade. When the item arrived, I quickly realized it was in fact, NOT food-grade, and therefore I could not use it

I purchased it to assist in the control of crawling insects entering my home. It seems to have worked well. It was easy to use and a 4.4 lb bag goes a long way--I distributed it with a makeshift shaker. As a reminder, it does need to be reapplied at least weekly to ensure the best success--rain seriously diminishes its effectiveness. I appreciate the fact that it is non-toxic, not wishing to add any destructive chemicals to the environment. I also used it on my lawn to help in controlling insects in it, including grub control. I have since been cautioned against using it on the lawn as it will destroy the "good" organisms as well. I would recommend this product, but also suggest investigating all uses of food grade (always recommended) on the internet as it is a multiple-use product.
