I am very satisfied with this well made cabinet. I converted for use as a base cabinet so I can't directly answer your question from personal experience. I would say that if you attached it to wall studs, it would hold whatever you would normally put in a wall cabinet.

Hello raggatyanne and thank you for your question.
The Valencia Over John Cabinet should be installed as recommended by fastening the cabinet to the wall with (2) screws (not provided) into wall studs through the back top rail (use toggle bolts if necessary).
See installation instructions here: http://www.homedepot.com/catalog/pdfImages/6d/6df975f4-80a0-4834-b41c-829a9cab194c.pdf

Setting the cabinet on the countertop without providing the proper bracing will create a hazard when using the cabinet . You could install the cabinet to the wall just over the countertop – be sure to allow sufficient clearance to open and close the door.

No hardware. We used two molly toggles with long screws. Drilled through the top brace on the inside of the cabinet before we hung it. Urbanwoman,
Yes, even the most untalented person should have an OK time hanging the cabinet. It does not come with screws or bolts, so what you will need are (2) 2" Wood Screws (if installing on a wall that uses standard 5/8" drywall and wood studs). You will also need a stud finder to locate the studs behind the wall where you want to hang the cabinet, a level (which if you have an iPhone or similar Read More

You will also need a stud finder to locate the studs behind the wall where you want to hang the cabinet, a level (which if you have an iPhone or similar device, you can find one for free through Home Depot's iPhone App under tools) and a ruler and pencil to measure and mark where you need to drill. Just be sure to follow the old saying, 'Measure twice and drill once.'
If you still feel uncomfortable you can hire a handyman to help you, and it shouldn't take him more than 10 minute, tops.
Please let us know if you have any other questions, or if we can help in any other way.
Thank you!

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Junk Came from the factory mis assembled and damaged as well as the paint finish was all scratched up. Would have been nice if the cabinet was drilled for hanging March 29, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worst purchase I made My contractor took this out of the box & installed it. I am very unhappy with this product. There is a gap of at least 1/4 inch all the way up between the 2 doors. You can see items in the cabinet without the doors being open. I absolutely hate the way this looks. It is either a mistake or a very poorly made product. March 29, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointed somewhat This cabinet is great overall but there are black permanent marker lines on the outside of the cabinet that the black paint did not cover. They are pretty obvious and it definitely takes away from the cabinet. February 23, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Just what I wanted This is a very solid piece of furniture that adds a surprising amount of storage in my small bathroom. I changed out the knobs for brushed nickel to match my vanity, but otherwise I love the look of it. The doors are easy to adjust, if needed. My only disappointment was that it did not come with the hardware to hang it. I'm very happy with my purchase. April 14, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Choice Very good looking style and quality. Definitely a good choice. December 9, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great purchase! Bought this to compliment the vanity I also purchased. I'm very happy with both. October 20, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Expensive price with poor quality We bought 2 vanities and the cabinet and found workmanship issues with each piece. We got them on a clearance which is the only reason we will keep them due to the expense of replacing them. I was really hoping to get a quality product that was nice and that is not what happened with this manufacturer. October 13, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Didn't hold up well We've had our cabinet for a few years now. Loved it when we got it. We were a little disappointed that there is a gap between the doors that we couldn't seem to adjust the doors enough to close so you can see into the cabinet from the front, not so bad that we didn't like the cabinet though. My complaint is that the finish has rubbed off on the doors near the knob areas, even though we always use the knobs. Just seems that for the price, it should have lasted longer, it became a problem within a year. We also had purchased the mirror that matches and it has the same problem. Might be fine in a guest bathroom that isn't used much. February 8, 2015
