I ordered and waited over a month for this product and its sister, the railing kit. When i finally received it and took it out of the box to examine at the jobsite, I was disappointed in a few things.
First, the spindles are tubular and iron as noted. It does not come with newel posts, also noted. But the handrails are bulky and semi circular - too big for small to medium stairwells. The brackets for the iron spindles are cheap looking plastic so the combination while good for an apartment, weekend cabin are not quality items to be used in a home day in and day out.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Rocky Excellent and easy to install.
I purchased 2 kits used for 18 foot long stairs. Stained the rails with a dark walnut 2 days prior to installation. Looks professional and visitors noted how sturdy it feels. Great product and took an hour to install. The staining and the drying took the longest.

We ordered this railing for a set of back stairs. It looks fine and serves its purpose. It was easy to install.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Dave Great kit, looks fantastic, but not as easy as it seems!
For me at least the quality of the wood I received was excellent. I think one of the other reviewers was right when they said that perhaps Axxy's improved it of late.
I installed four separate runs of rail and in every instance, and no matter how careful I measured, the assembly did not fit into the space when I tried to install it. The dimension to cut off each end to square up the top rail just wouldn't work for me. In any case I was able to fudge it with washers inside the holder and it turned out just fabulous. They look stunning and are as solid as a brick wall.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Mac Difficult to install unless you are handy
While the finished results for these railings looks good I would not recommend you purchase as we bought two of them and neither had any installation directions. There weren't any online either so unless you are real handy it will be difficult to install

There are a lot of good ideas in this rail kit, but it needs a little higher quality and to be given a little more thought. It requires a fair amount of ability on the installer's part, including cutting miters on the ends of the rails with fairly high precision. You also have to be able to locate studs and plan and layout the position of the brackets. One of the half-rails was cracked, though we decided to live with it. The wall rail brackets are out of kilter with the rail connector bracket, and have to be drawn in with force from the screws, which actually curves the rails a bit.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by FinishCarpenter Good design; poor execution
Hemlock is too soft for this application (They make matchsticks out of this stuff).
It also has a poor chance of surviving typical UPS shipping conditions. One of my two orders was badly scarred and dented. Since the project couldn't wait, I bought some local wood and used the Axxys brackets.
I lost over a $100 plus the cost of the replacement wood. HD was kind enough to give me a token 10% refund.
If you decide to buy this anyway, I tested several stains on some other hemlock I had in my shop. The dark stains produce an uneven appearance that I find ugly (much like oak). The best result was with Minwax "Natural". Finish with several coats of polyurethane varnish, smoothing with #000 steel wool before and between coats.
Another drawback is that most customers will not be able to cut the asymetrical miters that are required for the wall return fittings.

This Kit was my only choice since I could not find a 12' rail "al-a-cart". It seemed a little pricey, but after pricing the pieces individually, it proved to be moderately priced. The best thing is that is needed were included. I didnt use the end caps, but know they could be necessary in a different application than what I had. Overall very satisfied.
