If you decide to deal with those take in the consideration the following advice.
1. Order twice more treads than you need too. Half of them will arrive chipped, curved, strangely colored, not smooth on the surface, so you have enough to choose from. Home depot has 90 days return policy.
2. Use ONLY - PL Premium adhesive - if use any other you will ruin the work you do before gluing them down. Water based adhesive will bend the retreads severely.
3. Even when you use simple finishing material it may bend those treads badly.
All of this has happened to me. Home depot rep recommended me a wrong adhesive (PL 375) which ruined 3 of the treads and 3 days of my finishing and fitting work. They gave me a replacement with 10% discount but I would prefer not going through that at all.
I am not sure about other treads (like red oak that is much cheaper) but this one is something that can behave not the way you plan. I called manufacturer and they told me even if you install them OK they may deform later one due to extreme sensitivity to moisture. That is very true since simple staining curved them already. Do not expect a perfect product out of those retreads. I will post how they do after giving them a year installed in my house.
