That one lasted about 15 years before the tape finally snapped at about the 8" mark. This one seems to be up to the same level of quality as the old one--rugged and reliable with a good strong spring. The only real difference I can note is that this one includes both metric and imperial measurements, which is really neither here nor there.

However I prefer the fat boy over this because it's easier to manage and the tape stop is better. Unfortunately our local Home Depot didn't because well it's simply easier to do the math.

I was looking for a tape measure that measures in meters as well as inches/feet--and this was it. So glad to find it at Home Depot as a gift for my husband. We are building a house in Mexico where everything is measured in meters so this is essential for us.

The ONLY reason I bought this over a Fat Max, Milwaukee, or DeWalt is that it is nearly impossible to find one with metric markings.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Metric sucks I find the metric side useless. I will buy the regular Imperial Unit with ft and inches on both sides.
