I have had this generator since Dec. 2011. Fortunately I have not had to use it, haven't loss power. But still I start it every 3 months and run it for a while just for good measure. Empty the gas and put in stabilizer every three months. Big storm in NY this past week so I'm getting the generator ready and it won't start for anything. Just will not start. A total disaster and $1,300 down the drain. Not even 10 hours of usage out of it. Extremely frustrated!

I bought this generator last year after Hurricane Irene and had a transfer switch installed to power a well pump, furnace, fridge, microwave and a few other appliances including some lights. We just got power back today 12 days after Hurricane Sandy blew in. The generator has been in near continuous use for this time save for oil changes every 20 hours and refueling. No issues to report and it handled all our power needs extremely well. Very satisfied with this product and would recommend to anyone shopping for a good size weatherproof generator.

I own the 8000 all weather, had it for two months and it stopped generating power it was like pulling teeth to get it fixed but home depot did fix it, now it's like a year and a half later same thing, home depot said they would look at it but can't guarantee anything. I don't recommend this generator to anyone.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Phonzo The generator performed flawlessly during the MD power outage in July 2012
July 2012 was the second time I had to use the generator for an extended period and I'm pleased with its performance. The generator runs the entire house with all appliances pluged and ready to go. The circuit breaker on the generator only popped once when my wife ran the hair dryer and iron at the same time. It ran continuosly without shutdown for 72 hours in temps in the upper 90's to100's. Fuel consumption was as advertized and it ran pretty close to 12hrs on a single tank. The only drawback is the weight of generator with the wheels provided. After sitting a while the tires develop flat spots that make it unpleasent to move. The Tires are really to small for this generator and its heavy when trying to move it. overall its a great buy.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Buckaroo Great Product - Flaws are minor
I just received this generator, it arrived in good condition and is pretty easy to put together. You will need a funnel to put the oil in, and it doesn’t come with oil like some of the others. It takes about 1 ½ quarts of 10w 30 oil. The battery was easy to hook up after removing the ground cable from the frame to give it slack then reattaching it to the frame.
The good ….
Performance … Out Standing … Starts quickly and easily with both electric start and pull rope. I have run the unit 3 hours to start the break in and this unit runs my whole house and doesn’t even breathe hard!!! Yes whole house air, refrigerator, 2 computers, TV and some lights. The only time it bogged the motor down was when the A/C would kick on, but after that it ran as smooth and easy as when there was no draw on it! I didn’t try to turn on microwave, washer or drier or coffee maker.
The Bad… Shipping, UPS wanted me to pay for the truck to have a lift gate, I told them no way, I get free delivery, they checked and said ok and the driver delivered it and took it to the back of the house so it worked out ok. The handles, they make the unit feel as heavy as it really is, some units have the handles lift the weight so its over the wheels not in your hands and on your back. The wheels are too small and get flat spots from the weight so it is hard and wobbly to roll, but I only go the length of my garage and place it just outside the door so its not much of a problem for me.
Over all.. this is a great performer, and great value considering if you buy a cheaper model with same numbers, 10,000 and 8,000 you will have to build a small house to make it useful because you cannot run the others in the rain and what good is an emergency generator if you can’t run it in the rain. Also I have had some of the cheaper models with same engine size and power rating, that would not run the whole house with the A/C.
I am going to finish the break in period and run it for another 5 hours if it fails in any way I will post it here.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by John Great looking product and powerful. Just has some design issues putting it together.
Great generator. Very quiet for the size. Only issue is the cables for the battery. Need to be longer so you can take off the battery and screw on the cable to the posts. Had an issue with the negative cable. Since it was short and I had to pull it to reach the battery post the cable post came off the wire. Had to call an order a new one. They sent the wrong ones for another generator. Had to order a new one and they got it right. Once I got it all hooked up and got the gas in it it fire right up. Have not had to use it yet for a power outage but looking forward to using it. Have it set up to power the whole house.

Don't bother...buy another brand. The 8000 model I purchased was a problem from the start. From missing items in the original shipment to defective parts and a complete unit replacement. The sad part is the replacement doesn't work correctly. Much frustration and I'm out $1300. Stanley simply won't address the issue or stand behind their product.
