Customer Questions & Answers

Lost adjustment tool

We have one of these hinges (or one that looks similar, it says "Stanley" but there are no visible model numbers) on our basement door and can't find the adjustment tool that came with it. The person who installed and adjusted it over ten years ago thinks it was a hex key, but I've looked at the hole and it looks like a hollow set screw, but it also looks kind of "stripped". No tool that I've stuck in it is able to get a grip and turn it to adjust the closing force.

Customer Reviews

4 in. x 4 in. Steel or Stainless Steel Spring Standard Weight Hinge is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Replaced 14-year-old originals of same model. Bought these to replace the originals that were in my garage man-door (they had both failed). Note that the older ones had radiused corners on the hinge plates, where these have square corners, so I had to re-mortise the corners of the original slots on the door and frame (did it with a utility knife, took about 10 minutes total). The color is more brassy than the old ones. For whatever reason, Home Depot rotated the picture, they aren't really installed horizontally.
