I bought this first to turn the pantry door into a self closing door. Installation was a pain to say the least. It started with no problems, then got stuck. I had to pry it free and remove the outer sleeve before it would go in all the way. Loading the spring took the better part of 20 minutes. You have to load the spring on the hinge, on the door, against the moulding and door. There isn't much room.
After 1 month it had worked it's way up and the "claws" snapped together. Now I had to fight to remove the set pin, and start over loading the spring. 1 month later it had done it again.
The cap on the spring is very thin and fragile. It fits snug, and to remove it you have to pry it off. So if you remove the cap, you're going to damage it. By the time I went to remove it after the second time this thing worked it's way out of the hinge, it was toast.
I threw this away, and bought a spring hinge that was a perfect replacement for the hinge on the door. Now I have a self closing pantry door, and I don't have to look up every time I open the door to see if the pin was working it's way out. The cost for the spring hinge was less when you consider the time and aggravation this thing caused.

Already had one of these on the basement door. With the addition of a new puppy last year had to get one on the door to the laundry room to keep Riley from inhaling socks and whatever was in range.
Works great but instructions could be a little better.

The directions concerning the extra sleeve were not clear. The directions for setting the tension were incorrect. Both problems were recognized and corrected during installation.
