Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stanley finally got it right !! For several years, I have been on the search for the perfect (safety) utility knife. I've had quite a few, from slick sliders to folders -- none of them compare to the Stanley 10-189 Safety Knife !! Here are the features that (when combined) make this the absolute perfect safety knife: * Not too small or too big -- just the right size/weight for heavy-duty cutting tasks * Bright orange color makes it more visible * Ridges on both sides to prevent the handle from sliding during heavy-duty cutting tasks * Round-Tip blades prevent injury from happening * Auto-Retracting switch safely returns sharp blade into handle * Extra blade storage inside handle * Screw locking design prevents the blade from popping out during heavy-duty cutting tasks Recommended: Highly Rated for everyone (as the safest cutting tool for opening packages)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it I worked a summer at Home Depot years ago, and they gave each of us one of these (or one like it anyway). Since then I have missed this knife, and finally got my own. I like being able to cut a box or whatever and then stick the knife in my pocket without fiddling around or worrying that I forgot to retract the blade.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Self retracting Didn't realize that this was self-retracting when I bought it. It's pretty handy once you get used to it! Works to put in your pocket and not have to worry about cutting your leg!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Knife missing a key feature This appears to be a well made product and I bought it to replace an old one. Unfortunately it is missing a key feature that makes it not very useable. There is no way to lock the knife open. It has a self retracting blade, which is a good idea, but they have made it so you have to hold the blade in the open position with your thumb. As soon as you let up with your thumb the blade retracts. This makes it very difficult and tiring to do any serious cutting. It isn't clear to me whether this is a design flaw or a manufacturing flaw. There seems to be a place where a lock might go but there is nothing there. So I am disappointed and cannot recommend this product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not sure why this knife exists I apprently did not read the description on this knife. Been using utility knives for 4 decades but have never seen this. Once the blade is exposed for use your hand/thumb are captive. You must retain your grip on the knife and pressure on the thumb tab. This means you cannot adjust your hold or swap hands. Complete waste of a knife.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Designed By A Lawyer If you spend your life opening boxes, go for it. Useless otherwise. Seems as if it was designed by a lawyer in that there is no way you can hurt yourself with it. However, you can't cut wallboard with it, you can't cut vinyl tile with it, all you can do is open boxes with it. The blade that comes with it doesn't even have a point on it & it's not very sharp. That's $6 I wasted.
