Once I got the old one off I cut the 4 x 4 to size and then put the new one on. This mailbox has four screws that hold the top part (the mail box) to the bottom (the newspaper slot and the base) and two bolts that hold the bottom part to the post. It is very easy to put up. Do follow the directions and tap the bolts with a hammer to get them started. The directions are very clear. I really like the fact that you can access it from the back so you do not need to stand in the road while getting your mail. The road I live on has a 55 mph speed limit. Both doors close magnetically. This is a nice feature. It seems very sturdy but I have only had it for about a month. I gave it four stars because it is plastic. It looks good from a distance but up close it does look like plastic. Also the letters that come with it are fairly small and I do not think they are reflective, which would be a nice touch.

I chose gray to match the stone on the front of my house. My only complaint is the back of the "newspaper" opening is pretty flimsy, but I popped it into place and get things out of the front, unlike the mail which I get from the back. I do recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is a GREAT product! I''m 82 yrs old. I installed this mailbox, by myself, in just over 3 hrs. A good part of the time was spent pounding a posthole through roadside gravel, and part of the time sitting on my swing resting. Thanks to a good sturdy product, very clear, easy instructions, and a clever design, I had no trouble at all.The hole is the hardest part. Be sure to use a level to plumb your 4 X 4 post. Frankly, I think there is no doubt it's the most attractive mailbox in the development. The mailbox itself is nice and large and will easily accommodate my mailorder prescriptions. When you install yours, just follow the directions, and even if you AREN"T 82 years old, you will be so very pleased with the result.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Holds up well against the snow trucks Not only does this look nice, but it held up great against the snow and ice that the snow plows kept throwing at it this past winter. No denting like the metal ones.
