What is the recommened maximum weight for this 45 gal tote?

Also, are the lids and sides strong enough for stacking several at a time?
Asked by: Patty
Thank you for your question. Our totes are made of impact polypro or polyethylene. This materials withstand impacts and stack well. They are designed for general household storage which does not require or test for weight limits. We suggest you use good judgment and not overload them, or stack more than three high which could cause distortion or eventual damage. If stacking products, we recommend filling them to capacity so the bottom lid has support for the weight placed above it. Heaviest items should always be in the bottom box.

45-gal. Wheeled Latching Storage Tote in Lapis Blue is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 25.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love that it rolls! Large totes like this one are usually very cumbersome to move around. I love that it has a pair of wheels. I always push the limits of products. I am going to try using it as a movable raised garden bed. I'll send the results when I've tried it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not a very reliable product. The lids on these totes have an issue of collapsing into each other when they are stacked on top of each other over time. Contacted Sterilite about getting replacement lids and they told me its cheaper & a better deal to just buy new ones.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for storage I use this tote to storage all my Christmas decoration and every year it comes out clean and in great condition. I also use them to keep my winter clothes clean and safe!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More variety. I love the 45 gallon red with red latch - I wish you made an all green 45 gallon as well (I would have bought 4 more - too bad).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Storage Excellence Excellent storage capacity along with wheels for transportation make this tote a worthwhile choice.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect for the task For the light-wt. attic storage I was seeking, & having checked out the tote offerings at many stores, these giant (45-gallon) Sterilite totes hit the nail on the head -- had x-lg capacity; squared-off corners to maximize available space (inside & out); flat lids to allow efficient stacking (in moderation); barrel-rollers to help easily move them when loaded, & low prices. My 4 new totes will go in the attic or back-of-closet for long-term / low-traffic storage, away from rough handling, abrasion, heavy contents or impacts, & no floor-to-ceiling stacks. To best protect their contents from any possible humidity, mustiness/ odors, or wee invaders, whatever stuff is to be loaded into these will probably first get bagged (or vacuum-bagged) –off-season clothing; hand-me-down kid's clothes/gear; seasonal sports equipment; & bulky holiday décor. That said, let me also say that for a heavier-duty task (i.e. entailing heavy contents, multi-stacking, rough or inept handling, small nibbling critter-visitors, extreme temps, etc.), I would likely have chosen Rubbermaid Rough totes. Great durability, versatility, & space-saving design (nest efficiently when empty; & are small enough that even loaded w/ dense stuff, they’re manageable). These are great investments, considering their price & their long life-span. (20 yrs ago, I bought about a dozen of these totes (18-gal. size) for a hvy-duty trans-Atlantic shipment of household goods. They’re all still in great shape. And over the years, when not used for storage, they've been great at all sorts of other tasks -- pet-shampooing, apple-picking, fish-transporting, rug-rinsing, opossum catching, dump-runs. And afterwards, they clean up in a whiz.) In sum, I find is that again & again after I do comparison shopping, I end up preferring either Sterilite or Rubbermaid, depending on whether the job at hand is basically light- or heavy-duty. Both brands have consistently gratifying quality, design, & cost/benefit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bought 2 eight yrs ago and they are still in good shape. I bought 2 of these 8 yrs ago to store carving wood in, they are as good as they were when I got them. For the price you can't bet them. I bought 4 more today to move some of my carving tools, Carvings, and misc. items in from California to Washington in. Great product

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Fragile These totes are very large, as result they are often heavy when filled. The plastic is not strong enough...I have at least 6 or 7 and every single one has cracked/broken from simply grabbing the handle or edge and pulling when it was full (load of maybe 100 lbs), the lid latches and the lid itself are extremely fragile as well, you cannot stack these unless they are filled with fairly lightweight items. As comparison I have a bunch of the Larger Rubbermaid totes and none of the totes or lids are broken and they can be stacked with much heavier items inside. Just got one of the newer black with yellow lid HDX totes and they seem even more sturdy than the Rubbermaids, although not nearly as large. I'll be replacing these broken totes with more XL Rubbermaids eventually.
