Questions & Answers

What is the difference between the tempra 20 plus and the tempra 20?

Asked by: Leedarr
Plus models have an automatic control that will maintain hot water temperature by reducing the flow rate if too many taps are turned on. A good example is if someone is in the shower, and someone else turns on the kitchen sink and overloads the water heater. The person in the shower doesn't get a shot of cold water. The water temp from both the showerhead and the kitchen sink are at the set temperature of the water heater, but the flow rate is automatically adjusted so less water comes out. Once the kitchen sink is turned off the showerhead goes back to normal and the water temperature never changes. The basic models don't have this feature.

3/4" HW outlet - 1/2" water line

Tempra 20 Plus model is needed due to cold ground water. Tempra 20 Plus has a 3/4" outflow nipple...can I convert to 1/2" after the suggested 36" copper line? My cold weather cabin will have 1/2" PEX water lines to bathroom & kitchen. How will this effect water pressure?
Asked by: WaterwoodMike
Yes you can reduce the line diameter. You shouldn't have any problem with water pressure. Using a braided stainless connector instead of copper pipe will probably allow easier servicing for flushing scale or cleaning the inlet filter.

Tempra 20 Plus Advanced Flow Control and Self-Modulating 20 kW 3.90 GPM Electric Tankless Water Heater is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Waterless tank Good product, but when replacing one just know you will need an electrician as well as a plumber as they moved the connection which will take longer wiring.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very reliable Unit..... I see that someone had a problem with there Tempra 20 Plus, I installed one of these in a new house ( River Place) I had low flow at first and found out that it has a built in stainer on the inlet. Something from the new well had stopped it up. Causing low flow right off the bat. Cleaned it out and going strong for 6 years Now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Electric Tankless HWH The Steibel Eltron was one of the few brands that seemed to know what they were doing when I originally wanted to purchase a Tankless Water Heater. I bought this to replace an existing 40 Gal. HWH that was not properly winterized and was destroyed when the foreclosed property I purchased had been abandoned about 8 months before I bought it. I installed the unit in a 100 Amp box on 2-50 Amp breakers, so in theory, it could potentially use all of the power in my home, but I have never had any issues with power when people are taking a shower and the microwave is being used, or any other major power draws are happening. I can't really speak to issues of flow, but there have been as many people as 4 living in my home at one time, and I think the bigger issue tends to be when other people draw cold water and the mix gets changed in the shower. I have also installed a low-flow (pressure adjustable) Kohler Shower Head, and Aerators at the main faucets, which help limit flow, but getting enough hot water has never been a problem. I actually tended to have issues with not drawing enough water flow through to kick it on, which might be my only grief with the unit. If I just want a small amount of hot water to rinse dishes or the like I sometimes need to fiddle around with it or kick it on higher to get the HWH to kick on. Anyway, my unit was installed in June of 2008 and I've had no issues with it since. I'd highly recommend.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Expensive Mistake After installing I have been very disappointed in the water heaters performance. The temp has to be turned up to achieve a good level of water. Even then the water pressure is very low. It is fed by a 3/4 inch line with 65lbs of water pressure. I get barely enough flow to take a shower. Heavens forbid someone else turns on the water to wash their hands. Very expensive mistake. Will never order an electric again.
