PRODUCT OVERVIEW

Model # Tempra 24 Plus

Internet # 203210874

Stiebel Eltron developed tankless electric water heating technology 90 years ago and continues as the industry pioneer and world leader. Our engineering and manufacturing tradition of excellence means you can depend on the performance and reliability of our products. Our Tempra models are whole house tankless electric water heaters, never wasting energy storing hot water, but delivering it as you need it, for as long as you need it. The compact design needs no venting, allowing for installation close to your draw off points, making your wait for hot water as short as possible and maximizing your energy savings. Tempra tankless water heaters are sized based on the number of bathrooms and your climate. Refer to the Tempra Sizing Guide under 'More Views' to determine which model you need. Call Stiebel Eltron at 800.582.8423 if you have high flow showers, or any sizing questions. Tempra water heaters supply water at a constant temperature from 86 to 140 degrees F that is settable on the front panel. We recommend setting the actual highest temperature you use, typically 107 degrees for a shower. Tempra Plus models incorporate an Advanced Flow Control that automatically reduces flow rates to deliver water at the set point even if demand exceeds capacity. Regular Tempra models do not have this feature and should be considered if this is not of concern. Tempra 24 models provide hot water for 1 or 2 bathrooms in warm climates, or 1 bathroom in cool climates.

  • Tempra 24 models require 208 or 240 volt electric service, with a maximum draw of 18,000 watts at 208 volts or 24,000 watts at 240 volts
  • A minimum of 200 amp total service to the residence is necessary, with 2 separate 60 amp breakers and 6 gauge copper wiring for the Tempra 24
  • Tempra tankless electric water heaters are 99% efficient and typically result in savings of 15-20% in comparison with electric tank-type water heaters
  • The sleek European design is considerably smaller than a tank, saving space and allowing flexibility to determine the best location for installation
  • Tempra units must be installed vertically with the water fittings pointing down
  • Tempra tankless water heaters work better than tank-type water heaters in hard water environments because they can be set to lower temperatures, which minimizes scale formation
  • Water connections for Tempra water heaters must be detachable (such as braided steel flex connectors) to allow periodic filter cleaning, including flushing for scale if hard water is present
  • Tempra tankless water heaters are ETL Listed for compliance with CSA and UL safety standards in the US and Canada
  • Tempra tankless electric water heaters are exempt from seismic code
  • See warranty for complete details of the 3-year residential and commercial warranty against defects in workmanship and materials under normal use
  • This is a Tempra Plus model that incorporates an Advanced Flow Control to automatically reduce flow to deliver water at the set point if demand exceeds capacity

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 26 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by So happy to get rid of the water tank! Going tankless is wonderful. I was so happy to get rid of that old big bulky tank! This unit is so small and works so well! We used both an electrician and a plumber to ensure it was installed properly and it works like a gem! Love it! July 5, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Perfect Replacement for Oil Hot Water Tank The quality and simplicity exceeded my expectations, but careful planning and enough capacity on your home's electrical panel is mandatory. My oil fired hot water tank was past its life expectancy . I wanted a system that would be more energy efficient and facilitate relocation away from the furnace room. The on demand feature of tankless water heaters seems to make more sense than heating a storage tank. I also understand that an electric tankless unit may last twice as long as a more traditional solution. To be most efficient meant relocating the tankless electric unit to the opposite side of my home, closer to my electrical panel and the majority of the hot water needs; shower, bathrooms, laundry room. This unit requires a pair of 60 amp breakers and 6 gauge cabling. Fortunately I had 200 amp service and a secondary pony panel where single 15 amp breakers could be moved to make way for the 8 breaker locations for the two 60 amp breakers. I was able to tie the water requirements into the tankless heater relatively easily, but this does take much pre-planning and thought. I used exclusively SharkBite connectors to make the plumbing job effortless and very neat. Initially, I planned to use a second tankless unit, the Mini 6, but before I installed it, I realized the point of use unit, for the kitchen hot water and dishwasher would only provide luke warm water. I did install a more powerful point of use unit, their DHC 5-2 4.8 kW, but with cold well water, the heated water was not hot enough either. This DHC unit only requires a 30 amp 240 volt circuit with 10 gauge wire. I decided to tap off the main unit, run an insulated Pex line approximately 60 feet to the DHC, so now the cold water source is heated and the net output is more to my wife's needs. So, this did cost me a bit more and took longer to configure, but I'm happy to now say my oil fired hot water tank is now a relic. With Ontario's smart meters and off-peak usage I hope to cut my hot water costs in half. The combined cost of all components; both tankless water heaters, wiring, an electrician and doing the plumbing work myself, was almost 1/2 of the replacement cost or conversion to a propane hot water tank. I am also happy to report that all of my electrical and plumbing needs were also available at Home Depot and that the sales associates were very interested to hear how my project went. April 14, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent product! I was worried that this unit would be underpowered, but it's not. I wanted the larger Tempra 29 model, but I only have 200 AMP service coming into my home, so I had to "settle" on the Tempra 24. I put "settle" in quotes, because I really didn't have to settle at all. The Tempra 24 performs great, heats up quickly and runs flawlessly. It's more than enough water flow for a single person to take a hot shower with great water pressure and flow and for someone else to be using hot water to wash their hands, etc., in another bathroom. It will support two people taking hot showers at the same time, but the water flow to both showers is decreased by about 40% ... but still usable for a shower. All in all, I highly recommend this product! I'm very happy with it. Best of all, with two daughters in the house who have decided they love to take "hour showers", there is finally hot water left for me! May 6, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Very pleased Although this product seems a little pricey, it exceeds the performance of our last whole house tankless heater. We have not had it long enough to comment on cost effectiveness, but we have used a whole house tankless heater for 13 yrs. with considerable savings. Delivery was prompt. Installation was not difficult considering we did it ourselves. A very quiet unit that provides hot water to several areas simultaneously without heavy fluctuation. Overall, love this product. Rated 5 out of 5 by Good whole house unit This larger unit took the place of a point of use unit I mistakenly had put in, based on many positive reviews of people using it for the entire house. The smaller unit didn't deliver the hot water I was used to getting with two hot water tanks. I had it replaced and this unit professionally installed. The electrician and the contractor were impressed with this unit, and so was I when I got the hot water I have come to expect. The contractor was impressed that the unit is German-made, rated for a 2 bathroom home in a cooler climate, and designed for residential, commercial, and industrial applications. What's not to like about that? I'm very pleased with my purchase, which should handle any hot water needs I have for years to come. October 29, 2014
