Questions & Answers

DOES THIS UNIT REQUIRE A 220 LINE TO OPERATE?

MY HOUSE CURRENTLY HAS A 150AMP SERVICE!
Asked by: REFEREE
Generally, if you have a 150 service then the largest Tempra unit you could install would be the Tempra 20 Plus which can draw up to 80 amps of current. It would require 2 separate 220-240 volt circuits that would be wired separately back to you electric panel.

wiring

im planning to install the tempra 24 plus I already have the 6 gauge 3 wires and I have a doble pole 60 amp breaker in a 200 amp panel but the instuctions is confuse say need two separate 60 amp breakers and the picture show a two doble pole breaker and 5 wires any one already buy and install this particular model? thanks
Asked by: alex
You do need two breakers. I did not install mine, but I have worked on it and there are two 60amp breakers with five wires, not three. I would recommend hiring an electrician for the install.

Is Tempra 24 Plus more than is needed

I have upstairs bathroom only that I'm going to get elec tankless water heater for. I want quality but I wonder if the Tempra 24 Plus is more water heater than needed for this purpose.
Asked by: Rabbit
Probably not more than is needed. It depends on where you are located and how cold your incoming water is in the winter. Also, the Tempra 24 Plus can draw up to 100 amps. Your electric supply must be a min 200 amp service and you should have an electrician do a review of other connected electrical devices.

can this unit be installed in a manufactured home?

Asked by: elvis
Outside of any local code considerations there is no reason you can't install this in a manufactured home. In addition to endless hot water you will also gain back a lot of space your tank water heater occupies now.

It needs 2 (240VAC 50A) circuits to operate. This can easily be an additional cost that would in my case be half the purchase price of the unit. An on demand hot water heater is great all the hot water you need when you want it. Works great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I was replacing all of the copper in my home... I was replacing all of the copper in my home with PEX. Our old water heater (40 gal electric) was over 20 years old so I replaced it with a whole home instant hot water heater. This unit was very easy to install and to set-up. It has been working fine and I had to turn down the temp as the water got really hot. I researched for several months before deciding on this heater as it had the best warranty and reviews. Most of the time it is just my wife and I so we have not had any issues with running out of hot water....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love tankless This is the second electric tankless water heater I have installed . The first was when we built our house about 10 years ago . That unit lasted just about 9 1/2 years . This unit we installed about three months ago . It is far superior to our first tankless water heater . Even the plumber who installed it was impressed with the unit . One thing many homeowners don't realize is the amount of power and size of the electric panel that you need to use this type of water heater affectively . Our house has a minimum 200 amp service installed . We even had a dedicated 125 amp sub panel installed when we built the house . This has allowed us greater flexibility with this type of water . heater . If you have the circuits that will allow you to use this unit it is probably the best unit out there currently available .

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good unit Unit needs 2 X 50 amp breakers and 2 sets of heavy duty wires. Depending on location, you may need new/larger conduit. I also found out these units only last about 3 years unless you get some sort of water softener to prevent build up/scaling in the unit making it fail (has not happened but it sounds possible). Looking into that now. Ugh!!! It does work great and I don't have to worry about my son's Hollywood showers anymore ;-)

It is working fine and producing hot water as expected. There is a slight pressure drop when multiple hot water taps are opened. This is as designed. The unit is supposed to maintain temperature in favor of pressure. The quality of the workmanship appears to me quite good. We are happy with the product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have an upstairs, a house over 2,000 square feet.... I have an upstairs, a house over 2,000 square feet. The unit easily brings timely hot water to both kitchens. However, my master bathroom on one end of the house is 65 feet away from the unit. The water is hot by the time I take off my clothes and and grab my towel. I'm totally impressed with performance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good whole house unit This larger unit took the place of a point of use unit I mistakenly had put in, based on many positive reviews of people using it for the entire house. The smaller unit didn't deliver the hot water I was used to getting with two hot water tanks. I had it replaced and this unit professionally installed. The electrician and the contractor were impressed with this unit, and so was I when I got the hot water I have come to expect. The contractor was impressed that the unit is German-made, rated for a 2 bathroom home in a cooler climate, and designed for residential, commercial, and industrial applications. What's not to like about that? I'm very pleased with my purchase, which should handle any hot water needs I have for years to come.
