what are total parts i need to hook up the unit, besides thebraided steel flex connector

Asked by: dago
For the electrical hookup, you'll need sufficient length of 8/2 copper wire for 3 runs from your electrical panel to the unit, plus 3 40 A DP breakers, plus the usual assortment of miscellaneous parts like wire staples, etc. For the plumbing, you'll need whatever piping and parts needed to get cold water to and hot water from the unit in addition to the braided flex connectors. And you should consider isolation valves to make any scale flushing you might have to do easier, which leads me to add that if you are in an area with bad water you might want to add water treatment equipment to your list. Think that should do it. Have fun!

How reliable?

Asked by: Carol
Stiebel is acknowledged worldwide as manufacturing the best of the best. Individual reliability of these units will depend mostly on your water quality. If your area has bad water, it will need to be treated. You can also increase service life some by not setting the water temperatures to the maximum 140 degrees. Set it to the maximum temperature you need, like 110 degrees for your shower, and forget about adding cold water. It is not unusual for these to last 20 years.

Customer Reviews

Tempra 29 Self-Modulating 28.8 kW 5.66 GPM Electric Tankless Water Heater is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product! Great product, our customer was satisfied with the product, the delivery time and the installation!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Had to return product Had electrician review our current electrical breaker boxes and power and he determined that we would need one additional breaker box just to hold the 3 large AMP breakers needed, would have to run 6 heavy duty wires in new 3" conduit up the outside wall of the house into the attic then 60' over to the garage attic where one was going to be replacing a regular water heater. Cost estimate was over $2,200! And then he would not guarantee that if we turned on the A/C and the water heater that we would not blow a breaker....back to replacing the old one with another water filled one......Grrrrr..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good quality, good performance I had installed a tankless hot water heater from another manufacturer, which failed after 8 years, and decided to get what seemed like a somewhat more expensive, but better quality and higher capacity system. So far, it looks like I made the right choice, because the output has been uniformly hot despite the relatively cold water coming in (this is in the Adirondacks, so the real test will come in winter), and the temperature is easy to adjust. Since I was replacing another tankless heater, installation was relatively simple. The wiring was in place (three sets of #8 gauge), but I had to upgrade the three circuit breakers from 45 amps to 50 amps. Adjust the mounting screws on the wall, reconnect the water connections, connect the wires, and I was done.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE IT!!! We had a bosh unit prior to this one, which was smaller. With this unit you can flush the toilet, or wash your hands while someone is in the shower without an issue. Our plumber recommended this unit - said this company has a great product and great customer service...he actually had the local reps number in his phone! We have saves some serious cash over the years with our other unit, so if you are debating on upgrading definitely do it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to install. Instructions are easy to follow Easy to install. Instructions are easy to follow. I would recommend to others. Very small for the amount of water it can eat.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't buy unless you already have 400amp service! This product requires 150amps! Most homes, if you are lucky, have a 200amp service. That would leave you with 50amps for all of your appliances and other electrical needs. Absurd! A regular energy efficient hot water heater requires 20 amps. I don't know how a product that requires 3 50 amp breakers would be energy efficient. So, if you want to pay to increase your electric service, pay an electrician to do all the work, and then spend almost 800.00 for this unit, go for it otherwise buy a Rheem. They have a lot more ratings and do not require an entire house of electricity to run it.
