PRODUCT OVERVIEW

Model # Tempra 36 Plus

Stiebel Eltron developed tankless electric water heating technology 90 years ago and continues as the industry pioneer and world leader. Our engineering and manufacturing tradition of excellence means you can depend on the performance and reliability of our products. Tempra whole house tankless electric water heaters never waste energy storing hot water, but deliver it as needed, as long as needed. The compact design needs no venting, allowing for installation close to draw off points, making the wait for hot water as short as possible and maximizing energy savings. Tempra tankless water heaters are sized based on the number of bathrooms and climate. Refer to the Tempra Sizing Guide under 'More Views' to determine which model you need. Call Stiebel Eltron at 800.582.8423 if you have high flow showers, or any sizing questions. Tempra models supply water at a constant temperature from 86 to 140 degrees F that is settable on the front panel. We recommend setting the actual highest temperature you use, typically 107 degrees for a shower. This is a Tempra Plus model with Advanced Flow Control that automatically reduces flow rate to deliver water at the set point if demand exceeds capacity. Regular Tempra models lack this feature and should be considered if this is not of concern. Tempra 36 models provide hot water for 3 or 4 bathrooms in warm climates or 3 bathrooms in cool climates, and with a power draw of 150 amps, necessitate 300 amp minimum total service to the house.

  • Tempra 36 Plus models require 208 or 240 volt electric service, with a maximum draw of 27,000 watts at 208 volts or 36,000 watts at 240 volts
  • A minimum of 300 amp total service to the residence is necessary, as the Tempra 36 has a power draw of 150 amps via 3 separate 60 amp breakers with 6 gauge copper wiring
  • Tempra tankless electric water heaters are 99% efficient and typically result in savings of 15-20% in comparison with electric tank-type water heaters
  • Tempras use only the amount of energy necessary to heat the water needed
  • The sleek European design is considerably smaller than a tank, saving space and allowing flexibility to determine the best location for installation
  • Tempra units must be installed vertically with water fittings pointing down
  • Tempra tankless water heaters work better than tank-type water heaters in hard water environments because they can be set to lower temperatures, which minimizes scale formation
  • Water connections for Tempra water heaters must be detachable (such as braided steel flex connectors) to allow periodic filter cleaning, including flushing for scale if hard water is present
  • Tempra tankless water heaters are ETL Listed for compliance with CSA and UL safety standards in the US and Canada
  • Tempra tankless electric water heaters are exempt from seismic code
  • See warranty for complete details of the 3-year residential and commercial warranty against defects in workmanship and materials under normal use
  • This is a Tempra Plus model that incorporates an Advanced Flow Control to automatically reduce flow to deliver water at the set point if demand exceeds capacity

Rated 5.0 out of 5 by 9 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love, love, love it! We have hot water within a few seconds, and the water stays hot no matter how many showers are in use. We had an electrician and plumber install it. We had to contact the tech support of Siebert-Elton because the water was taking a long time to get hot and would not stay hot. Tech support had us flush the water lines to remove any gunk/blockage which solved the problem. We have had hot water ever since. Great product! December 10, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Product for Us I was a bit pessimistic when we purchased this product but it proved me wrong. This is an excellent product, I'm glad we made his choice. We have a 3-bathroom, 2-story home and this product works great. Remember to use the correct voltage requirements and you won't go wrong. It's worth it ! January 14, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Be sure this is the unit you really need! This product works as advertised and is extremely well designed and well made, but may not be what you need. You need to determine how many amps your house is wired for, as this unit will need 150 amps when it draws at maximum (which is only briefly on start-up and at maximum flow). This means your house needs at least 300 amp service and most houses are wired for only 200 amps. Also the published 7 gpm flow rate is based (as is the case with all tankless water heaters regardless of manufacturer) on heating the incoming water only 35 degrees. Only southern Florida & Texas and the desert areas of the Southwest need that little heat input to get hot water. If you are anywhere else in the US, you will not achieve that flow rate as the water heater will need to add more heat to get your water up to temperature. And most people actually don’t need that kind of flow rate. Check the sizing guide or flow rate chart to make sure this model is the one that will do what you need. You actually might be better off with one of their smaller models. May 3, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Happy user Had ours for about a year now. Installation was not that difficult. However, did call in an electrician to complete the installation. Make sure you check to see if you have room in your circuit box for the three 50 amp breaks it needs. Had to move one of my breaks to keep these in line together. Unit works as advertised . There is plenty of hot water through out the house. Took us a couple of weeks to adjust the hot water temp to get the right water mix when multiple devices are used at once. Inlet water temp makes a big difference. We have our own well with a storage tank. Because of the storage tank the water in the winter is much colder. Still have plenty of hot water, but can only run one shower at a time in the winter. With that said this still is an excellent product. Nice to gain the space in garage used by the old hot water tank. Don't expect a big savings on your electric bill. It took a couple of months to see the difference. June 16, 2014
