How tall will this grow with no mowing?

How tall will this grow with no mowing?
Asked by: kb
At least 10 inches. That's the tallest I've seen - a few blades (near a post) I neglected to cut with the string trimmer for awhile.

This is supposed to be what my sod lawn came from. I prepped and took care of this seed till it germinated and took hold. I watered multiple times a day. It never dried out. It never took hold. This is my second bag. It stays very fine and never established itself. Even after 6 months it was way too delicate. Don't waste your time and water.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Lawn So Far Location ; Fresno , Cal. Summer of 2015 , I hand tilled my small old lawn with a shovel, cleaned out weeds and old grass. At about spade depth . I added Gypsum and Soil Topper (lots of Hard pan ). Mid September I planted Stover Bonsai 3000 with 5% mini Clover . Within a week the lawn was sprouting . Now it is May 2016 and the lawn is lush and full. However the lawn needs to be mowed about every ten days or so. Feels nice to walk on barefoot.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cheap for a reason: Nothing grows Used most of a 5-pound bag and got maybe six square inches of actual grass. A few weeks later, I tried a different brand of fescue seed in the same place, with the same dirt, planted the exact same way, and all of it sprouted. That leads me to believe that this brand gives you bunk seeds that don't grow. Won't be buying it again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stover Bonsai 3000 seed - worked very well for us. Unsure of the diff between Stover Bonsai "2000" and "3000", but we got the "3000" at our local HD store. There was no Bonsai 2000 on the shelf, only the 3000. Bag looks different, but Stover is the brand and it's dwarf tall fescue. So: we tore out our old lawn, put down 2" of topsoil, seeded, and raked it over with soil in Sept 2015. Didn't get too tensed up about bag instructions, just put down the seed, raked it over, and kept it moist. No fertilizer. Seedlings started coming up in a week. Slowly filled out over the wet, mild winter (we're in western WA). Come spring, it took off. We commenced with professional fertilizing & weed treatment. By April it was gorgeous - thick and deep green. With regular watering, mowing, fertilizer (quarterly), it's is unchanged despite weeks of 85+ degrees. Know this: MUST be mowed tall - 4" minimum. Google Maps satellite pics confirm: we've the greenest lawn for miles around. No complaints here.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor choice in seed I have 3 years experience with Stover Bonsai grass. I wondered what I was doing wrong until I purchased another brand of fescue. Bonsai is inferior in so many ways. It constantly wants watering. It is not suitable for sun and does not do seem to do well in the cold. Requires constant maintenance. It tends to lay down and needs to be raked before mowing. It bunches up like weeds. I just don't understand this hybrid. Buy one of the major brands like Pennington.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Germination over 90% in 7-9 Days I had my doubts about seeding a new lawn. It was late May and with Summer temps heading over 90 in a few weeks. I almost opted for buying sod from a nursery/sod farm but the idea of using transplanted grass on soil I took 3 mos to till and amend and have some dead patches or risk not all that expensive grass take root. I decided to seed it myself and Stover Bonsai Dwarf Fescue is was what I chose, not because most sod farms and nursery's that grow their sod use this seed for sod out here in So California, it was a less of a gamble then spending several hundred dollars on transplanted grass which is what sod basically is. I sowed the seeds and followed directions on the bag and well, with in 7-9 days later, I was surprised too walk out back and see lush dark green seedlings germinating ( The bag said 14-21 days for germination time.) Another 2 weeks later, I now have a beautiful lawn sure, I got about 10% weed germination too, but not to worry in another few weeks the dwarf fescue will start to choke out those weeds and spread out thicker and with regular watering, fertilizing and mowing the lawn at about 3" high the weeds won't be back. The Sod I priced out from a grower was $375.00 for 1,000 sqft. vs two bags of Stover Bonsai Fescue Grass Seed which cost with tax $42.00 oh, and a bag of starter fertilizer for another $10. I couldn't be happier and I am now in the process of planting this seed on my side lot of 800 sqft. and expect no less results that what I have already experienced. If your on the fence about which seed to use go with what the growers use you can't go wrong.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than Marathon! I planted this seed in my back yard and it turned out excellent! It even looks better than my front marathon yard. If your looking for a grass that stands up to the heat of summer it did great for us.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible results Extensive soil preparation with Scott's planting soil, seeded, then covered with Scott's again. Seed came up in 10 days and attained 3+ inches in 3 weeks. After the first mowing, the fescue died! and now has mostly died out completely. Must water at least 3 times per week to maintain adequate color, however it is systematically dying to the ground and now reviving. Not a good product at all.
