I had to tear out the drywall around my fireplace to replace the tile. The drywall is 5/8 inches thick but I want to use hardiebacker cement board. Which I can only get in 1/2 in thickness. So where the hardiebacker meets the 5/8 drywall it isnt level because of the 1/8 difference in thickness between drywall and hardiebacker. My question is can I use these strips behind the hardiebacker cement board to bring it even with the 5/8 existing drywall?

Answer:
The shims can be used just like any kind of shims. Personally I'm not familiar with the correct method of removing a glued mirror, but if using shims is the best way then these shims will work.

Rated 4.9 out of 5 by 23 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by very useful material The shims feel very sturdy, and have an even and smooth finish. They can be cut with scissors. I used them to shim out one side of a window trim, where the evenness and long length was a definite advantage. I will use them on some other window and door trim to compensate for uneven walls. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by This good spacing material This is 100% better than the material the store stocks. Why don't they stock this? March 11, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This is a great product. This product is a better quality than what is sold in store. this should be available in store also. April 27, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Saved the job I'm a DIY'er and am rebuilding our master shower as part of our bathroom renovation. I decided and had already purchased "1/2 inch" Hardibacker cement board, only to find out that it's not quite a true 1/2 inch, but a little less. This was causing problems where the Hardibacker was not meeting up flush with the bottom of the existing sunken shower walls, or with the rest of the regular 1/2 inch drywall outside of the shower. Straitflex shims are sturdy, easy to cut and staple, and are exactly 1/16 of an inch apiece, which allowed me to stack them easily on my existing studs to bring the Hardi up flush to the other surfaces. MY ONLY COMPLAINT: These things should be stocked at the store! Had to wait for them to be shipped to my house. Otherwise, the product is excellent and was a lifesaver. The big box of 100 shims was plenty enough for both of our bath renos. December 22, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Drywall Shims These Drywall Shims are absolutely wonderful. I can not express how pleased I am to have them. They are ideal for all large renovations or repairs. Whenever there is a large area that needs repairing with possible water damage to studs, it is almost impossible to accomplish without replacing the studs or employing the shims. As far as I am concerned, shims is the option for me. My weight bearing jousts are in good shape so I'm sistering all and/or any weakened studs. Great product and I certainly recommend for any large renovation or repair. November 2, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great to get the Wall Straight These Drywall Shims help to floating butt-joints and framing when they are irregularities. They are easy to install. The shims can be installed by screws, nails or staples to the wood framing members to help make the wall straight. You can layer them to get that prefect wall straight. It comes in 100 per box and comes in lengths of 36 in. and 45 in.. November 28, 2015

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very usefull for any drywall project This product is very helpfull for any drywall project , i have ordered these shims as i was drywalling my 900SFT basement and these shims saved time around any wood studs that are not aligned with other ones, These shims also helped to get the slight slope for Butt Joints that helps during taping an mudding.Initally i was tryiing to order RockSplicer or trmtex butt board for butt joints but they are very expensive. This shims has saved time and money these are just cardboard product but thats what required for drywall aligning.Just follow the images on the Box how they can help buttjoints and regular misaligned studs.Over all nice product.
