Rated 3.4 out of 5 by 19 reviewers.
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Mediocre at Best This tool does work in as much as it will help drive posts into the ground. The emphasis being on help. The whole premise of the design is that a tube weighing about 35lb, same roughly as a manual post driver, when dropped about 18 inches onto the post being driven, will do the job. If you pull down on the driver at the same time it drops, it will work better. The compressed air just provides power to lift the driver ready for the next drop. So you do less work but the driving force does not come from the compressed air. All well and good if the ground conditions and post being driven respond to that fairly low level of impact. And let's be clear, it is quite a low level of impact and it can only be repeated as fast as the tool will raise the weight and drop it. Faster than most people could manage with a manual driver but nothing to get excited about. In practice, dropping 35lbs is not very effective. My soil is a sandy loam that is very easy to dig and should present no problems for a good post driver. It's so easy to dig that I can excavate a 3ft deep 4 in diameter hole with a manual post digger in about 10 minutes. I purchased this driver to use with 1.625" dia schedule 40 galvanised pipe that I need to drive about 24 in for use as the base tubes of a hoop house. My assumption was that when used in conjunction with a post driver adapter, basically a solid metal cylinder with a step that fits in the pipe to prevent the top edge from deforming when struck, the time and effort taken to drive the pipe would be less than using a sledge hammer. The effort may be less although I suspect not that much. It's certainly easier to use this tool and keep the pipe vertical than when using a hammer. But it's very, very slow. Just by way of comparison I timed how long it took to drive a 1 in x 1 in x 1/8 in thick length of steel angle into my soil. A very easy test really as both the cross sectional area and contact surface of the angle is small compared to the pipe or tube this tool is claimed to be suitable for. One minute with this tool and the angle was 22 in into the ground. Using a medium weight hammer the same depth was easy to achieve in 90 seconds. I'm still thinking about whether to return this. It's quite expensive for what it is and results are disappointing. I'll update this review when I've decided. September 27, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not what we hoped for We got this post driver because we thought it would be easier to sink metal fence posts with it than by hand. It wasn't. In fact, it was harder using this tool than just doing it by hand. And it was actually slower and less effective. The tool is rather awkward to use and we had problems with the posts getting bent instead of being driven into the ground. Thinking about returning it and getting our money back. August 30, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by bad seals This air tool worked for 5 min than blew a seal I opened it up replaced both seals with new ones and now it works ok...you just have to keep oiling it every 10 min or so or it will stick really bad February 10, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not so easy bought this thinking it would make post driving easier..... then find out you need a high psi air compressor to run it and when your working on fencing in the middle of a field it makes it a little tough. December 10, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by it is a good idea, BUT.... unfortunately it just didn't work as advertised. I returned it already. The air did not escape the chamber quick enough or fully enough, and it just fought you. Air lifted the pounder well enough but on the down strike it seemed you were expending your energy to force the air out of the cylinder instead of in driving the post. Also, the handles not long enough - when you place the driver on a 6 foot post, the handles are practically over your head before you even lift the pounder - very awkward. It just didn't operate very smoothly - jerky and awkward. Like I said, it is a very good idea - just maybe poor design? I found that it was more work than the traditional manual post pounder. However, I ordered this item from Home Depot.com and was able to return it quickly and easily at my local Home Depot store. October 18, 2010
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Concept good but follow through POOR! The tool drove the first 26 posts just great but on number 27 the moveable valve/handle broke. The downward stroke of the handle is stopped buy a split ring that is inadequate to stop the moveable handle. The ring deformed and came out of the housing. I reinstalled the split ring but it let go again after two posts. The manufacturer needs to finish engineering the product. The idea is great but the execution is inadequate. April 30, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by let machines do the hard work Keep a little WD40 in your air inlet every 10 or 15 posts and a small spray inside where the piston driver is and this machine took 80% of the work from my arms.It only weighs 32lbs compaired to the rental driver at 62 lbs is why I opt to purchase one avoiding further back injury to myself (Have back problems) Great tool for the money. This drives the T-post down 12" in less than a minute August 7, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Striker TS Purchased the Striker TS to drive stakes in a new vineyard. The post driver worked better than expected. we drove 1500 posts over three days. The driver developed an air leak on the forth day, I called the manufacturer and explained the problem. They were helpful , friendly, and mailed the replacement part that day. Best of all this product is made in the USA and can be serviced or you can get replacement parts quickly. June 22, 2010
