What caulk will work with this tub surround

I purchased this tub surround 4 years ago. There is not a caulk out there that I can get to stick for more than a few months. I have used tub and tile caulk of many kinds and find that it only peals after a few months. Silicone same story. ..nothing sticks and I'm getting frustrated. ..and yes I have properly cleaned all the old caulk and or silicone before re caulking. Nothing works

What is the best way to cut the wall units?

Asked by: john
You will regret using a jigsaw. Best option. Is to use a pair of tin snips and carefully cut. Can also be scored and cut with knife but is slower

Customer Reviews

Sturdifit 32 in. x 60 in. x 58 in. 5-Piece Easy Up Adhesive Tub Wall in White is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 24.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product, great value, need to use right caulk Bought for guest bathroom, easy to install with construction adhesive. Nice thick panels. Edges of panels are a bit rough. I agree with other reviewers that an included trim kit would have been nice. Instructions recommend 100% silicone caulk to seal joints between tub wall and tub. However, 100% silicone caulk doesn't stick but instead peels cleanly off the joints even weeks later. Wrote to manufacturer customer support and they replied, " "Unfortunately we do not recommend any particular brand of caulk. We would only recommend using an Advanced Kitchen and Bath Polymer sealant. We have discovered that neither the acrylic/silicone blend or the 100% silicone work as well." I tried DAP 3.0 Kitchen Bath and Plumbing High Performance Sealant, and it works great. It's not silicone, but instead a low odor polymer sealant. Aside from the adventure with caulking (and re-caulking), recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid, Not Cheap The panels were thicker than I expected. They were about 1/8" thick and much sturdier than some of the cheaper surround options. They would easily cover many imperfections. The downside is they don't stick to the walls well because of their own weight. No painters tape is going to hold these up or together. The Liquid Nails Tub Surround glue was worthless and the panels let go right away. I ended propping them up with some lath. The next panels I used the Loctite Tub Surround glue and it seemed to work much better. Product is 5 star quality but the install had some challenges, still, definitely would buy again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good value I installed this surround over a day, and then caulked the seams the next day. I used Loctite Tub Surround, which stuck great and will hopefully stay that way. Seams were sealed with Dap 3.0 kitchen and bath because I read that was the only caulk that sticks to this plastic. Although harder to work with (requires liberal use of mineral spirits for tooling and sets up rapidly) it seems to be sticking quite well and should be durable. Installation was relatively easy, I took my time because my walls were not square. Panels seem thicker and more substantial than similar priced units. I don't like how the seams are designed because they allow some movement if pressed on, which over time could make the caulking fail. It's not a huge deal, but if I were to do it again I might put some compressible weather or stripping or something in there to reduce the flex. All in all I'm quite happy with the end product and I think it looks as good as a 5 piece surround can look.

What took the time was making the holes for the faucets. Tried using a bigger drill but it skittered all over the place, so just used a small drill to remove a few holes within our marked space, and then took a sharp knife and carved out the rest. There is probably an easier way to do this but it worked for us. Putting it up on the walls was easy as we just glued the heck out of them and stuck them up. They were much heavier and firmer than the old ones we took down. Only concern we have is that the shelves themselves (where they stick out from the wall) feel kinda flimsy--they are not as stiff as the board itself. Hope the grandkids don't whack the shelves too hard with a heavy toy as I think they could poke a hole in them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great surround. This surround is the best I've ever used, that would be around 5 of them. It went up easy, the instructions are clear and it's thick. Helps conceal small imperfections in your wall, we put up sheetrock and there were some small imperfections that the surround hid well. I was installing a 32" whirlpool tub most surrounds are for the standard 30" tub. this one is somewhat adjustable making it easy to fit different sized tubs. I used Power Grab Tub Surround Construction Adhesive and didn't need to put up supports, it grabbed great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy and looks good The only cutting I had to do was of course the holes I drilled for the plumbing fixture. I loved the thicker material. It was easy to apply to the wall just make sure you have a level line across the top to match up with and it all falls into place. I used the quick grab adhesive that comes in a tube for a caulking gun, it gave me plenty of time to apply the wall panels and actually adjust them to fit right but still grabs good enough that you can let go after just a couple of minutes and move to the next panel. I only wished that this kit comes with trim to cover the edges. It looks okay but I would pay the money for a trim kit to make it blend into the wall.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Budget Friendly updating. Now these panels are actually pretty great. They are light, thick, and score & snap pretty easily. When looking for a budget friendly shower/tub update, these are awesome. I attached them to a sub wall of masonry, using construction adhesive. They look good and should last quite some time. An optional trim kit would make them all the much better. I would recommend to anyone looking to update their shower walls and who do not want tile.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Heavy Duty Tub Surround This is a solid bathtub surround. This is the second one I have purchased. It is fast an easy to install. The most difficult part is drilling out the holes for the faucet. To make this easier, use the box that the surround comes in as a template. Cut the box to replicate one of the three solid wall panels then push it up against the faucet wall to mark the location and then cut to fit wall and use this cutout as a template on the plastic wall panel.
