Can this material be trimmed?

I have an odd sized tub (30" wide X 54" long) and it is almost impossible to find an item that size. Can it be trimmed down t fit the tub? If so, what is used to trim the material?
Asked by: Richard
Best way to trim is with a good pair of tin snips,

What caulk will work with this tub surround

I purchased this tub surround 4 years ago. There is not a caulk out there that I can get to stick for more than a few months. I have used tub and tile caulk of many kinds and find that it only peals after a few months. Silicone same story. ..nothing sticks and I'm getting frustrated. ..and yes I have properly cleaned all the old caulk and or silicone before re caulking. Nothing works
Asked by: MikeD
Same here, I've recaulked the surround 3 times with dap 3.0, which is supposed to work, but it just peels after a few months. This is after meticulous cleaning with acetone and light sanding, the dap 3.0 will still pull away from the surround, even in places that should receive zero stretch, such as the vertical seams. Very frustrating.

What is the best way to cut the wall units?

Asked by: john
You will regret using a jigsaw. Best option. Is to use a pair of tin snips and carefully cut. Can also be scored and cut with knife but is slower

For the cost it was easy to install and looks great when finished. Even though during the 'first' attempt Liquid Nails...as per recommendations on the HD site...was a complete fail, removing the glue from the the Studifit product was easy. We are experienced at DIY projects, but we had never done anything like this before. That said, with the correct supplies the process was easier than expected and as you can see, looks beautiful! One of the nicest things about this particular model was that it was more firm and stable than other models though was only $100 more than the base model. One concern we had was the flexibility in the corners where the shelves were. A suggestion we saw on-line was to use spray insulation to fill the hollows. We ended up using Loctite Tite Foam. It was easy to use and cured quickly. And instead of having to cut the extra foam, we were able to simply compress it by pushing down on the cured foam. This was a fantastic suggestion and added to the stability of the corner pieces. Difficulties included using the incorrect glue. Even though some comments suggested not using the Liquid Nails, the HD site indicated that it was what most people purchased. The use of Loctite PowerGrab and the DAP 3.0 waterproof, non-silicon sealant made it as easy as we had originally expected. Dealing with an uneven wall and an old building made for some problem solving along the way. A little extra Gorilla Glue as filler helped us with some of the leveling and filling along the way. Again, I would use the products and even though the manufacturer's instruction sheet suggests using glue on the entire back of the piece, a HD video suggested using a "snake like bead" then spreading it. Less glue definitely made a difference in terms of hold and stability. In the end, we are very satisfied with the Sturdifit enclosure and highly recommend the product for its looks, value and ease of assembly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid, Not Cheap The panels were thicker than I expected. They were about 1/8" thick and much sturdier than some of the cheaper surround options. They would easily cover many imperfections. The downside is they don't stick to the walls well because of their own weight. No painters tape is going to hold these up or together. The Liquid Nails Tub Surround glue was worthless and the panels let go right away. I ended propping them up with some lath. The next panels I used the Loctite Tub Surround glue and it seemed to work much better. Product is 5 star quality but the install had some challenges, still, definitely would buy again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy and looks good The only cutting I had to do was of course the holes I drilled for the plumbing fixture. I loved the thicker material. It was easy to apply to the wall just make sure you have a level line across the top to match up with and it all falls into place. I used the quick grab adhesive that comes in a tube for a caulking gun, it gave me plenty of time to apply the wall panels and actually adjust them to fit right but still grabs good enough that you can let go after just a couple of minutes and move to the next panel. I only wished that this kit comes with trim to cover the edges. It looks okay but I would pay the money for a trim kit to make it blend into the wall.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great surround. This surround is the best I've ever used, that would be around 5 of them. It went up easy, the instructions are clear and it's thick. Helps conceal small imperfections in your wall, we put up sheetrock and there were some small imperfections that the surround hid well. I was installing a 32" whirlpool tub most surrounds are for the standard 30" tub. this one is somewhat adjustable making it easy to fit different sized tubs. I used Power Grab Tub Surround Construction Adhesive and didn't need to put up supports, it grabbed great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Heavy Duty Tub Surround This is a solid bathtub surround. This is the second one I have purchased. It is fast an easy to install. The most difficult part is drilling out the holes for the faucet. To make this easier, use the box that the surround comes in as a template. Cut the box to replicate one of the three solid wall panels then push it up against the faucet wall to mark the location and then cut to fit wall and use this cutout as a template on the plastic wall panel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Budget Friendly updating. Now these panels are actually pretty great. They are light, thick, and score & snap pretty easily. When looking for a budget friendly shower/tub update, these are awesome. I attached them to a sub wall of masonry, using construction adhesive. They look good and should last quite some time. An optional trim kit would make them all the much better. I would recommend to anyone looking to update their shower walls and who do not want tile.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Quality Unit I have installed numerous pre-fabbed tub surrounds over the years. I like these better than most. The material is actually thicker than the cheaper ones so the finished product is a little better. As long as the wall surface is as flat and clean as possible, they install quickly. There are always a couple of flaws on the edges, and the cavities behind the formed corner shelves need to be foamed to make them nice and solid. Otherwise, I have had good results and customer satisfaction installing these. With a prepped surface, they go up pretty quickly and look as good as is possible for a 5 piece surround to look.
