Pulling a camper, I needed something light and good for getting on the water. This boat is only 106 pounds so I can carry on top of my van. Yes, the transom thickness is an issue at just over 2.5 inches, but I knew that prior and made modifications by removing the inside portion of the rubber and also some work to the outside crown edge. Got it down to 2.25 inches to fit my Merc 3.5 motor. Before applying my numbers and stickers I cleaned surface with MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone) and they seem to be sticking fine. As to motors, you can use a long shaft, but a better performance would be with a short shaft motor up to 5hp.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by ShannonS Perfect for our pond
Perfect for pleasure rowing on our pond. Lightweight enough that two adults can carry it about and rugged enough that I don't worry about puncturing it on rocks, etc. It is quite small so I wouldn't put more than two adults in it. Has a place to attach a small boat motor at the back of the boat. If I had one complaint it would be that oarlocks are not ideally situated (for me). If you're on the middle seat and want to row, you must have your back to the bow. The only way to row and face forward is to sit all the way at the back of the boat. However, oarlocks can be easily moved by taking out screws - but you'd likely have to make guide holes with an electric drill to screw oarlocks down in a new location.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Kate great small application boat
This is a great boat for ponds, even those 20+ acres. your can rowir(oars sold separately) or add a small motor (like trolling) up to 5hp. it has oar pin holders, however they are in a plastic boat so they are obviously not for rowing in bad conditions. but it is spacious for what it is. We love it and use it for maintenance on our 1+ acre pond. would definitely recommend it. you will need a socket wrench to install oar brackets, and or a black and decker style drill/driver as the oar screws go into lock nuts and are difficult to turn by hand. Actually has a hull number for registry, and an owners "title" for transfers if you sell it.

purchased 10 days ago, went to put my 4.5 hp mercury on the transom and it does not fit over the heavy rubber protector that is screwed to the transom. had to remove it to even get the outboard onto the transom. the transom area where there is a wood piece to brace for an outboard is not protected at all. then, i put on my Fl register sticker....it fell off. stick on numbers etc will not stick to the sides of this boat. when i called to mention these problems, the person that i talked to explained that this is how the boat is made....intentionally. go figure. the boat does float and goes well with the outboard.

The Sun Dolphin Water Tender is great for small lakes and ponds. We bought it to use as a rowboat on our new lake. It can be handled well by children as young as 7 or 8 with adult supervision.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Carlen Surprisingly stable in rough water and wind.
I have owned the boat for a month now and it does the job well. I use it in brackish/salt water for crabbing, towing my grandson on water toys in the lagoons, and fun cruising. It's powered by a 4 stroke, 4 hp Mercury which drives it well. I've taken large wakes from 30' boats with no problem.
The only minor downsides are that the storage area in the stern under the round deck plate leaks rain water, soaking the internal storage bag, and the engine (15 inch) sits too low on the transom and hits bottom in shallow water. All things considered, this boat rates an easy 5 stars.
