Answer:
The manufacturer recommends no more than a 40 lb. thrust 12 volt motor... I use a 46 lb. thrust motor and it is solid. Recommend using a motor with a 30" shaft. It'll sit just at the right height on the canoe. Also get an extendable tiller control handle as it is a bit of a reach to the stern.

Answer:
A 20 pound thrust will move these fine. 30 will be quicker and 40 pound is the max. I have a 36# on my other canoe and get close to 3mph. Think of each pound of thrust as 1 amp to match a good battery for it.My 36# uses 35 amps at max speed setting.

Hey Buck,
Acknowledging that you've probably already purchased a trolling motor based on your question asked date of July 24th 2015, here's my 2c at this late date.

Hey Buck,
Acknowledging that you've probably already purchased a trolling motor based on your question asked date of July 24th 2015, here's my 2c at this late date.
The maximum thrust per the canoe spec is 40lbs. I mounted a 50lb motor (that's what I had in the garage) and my canoe "flies" around the lake.
However, I'm confident in recommending a 25lb motor. The price point for these motors is around $100.00US and 25lbs is plenty of thrust.
Really not a need for the larger motor that I use.
Best wishes...

I used a 36 lb on the Coleman Scanoe I am replacing with this one, both weigh 95lb, and the Scanoe was plenty fast, just take it easy on the turns until you get use to her. I used a 5hp gas too, but had to put a couple cinder blocks up front if I was by myself, the battery kept the bow down fine with the electric.

Answer:
Simply, there is no foam of any type in this canoe.
However, the three installed seat components are, as stated on the main product page, all molded and sealed to aid with flotation.

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 10 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Super value Got my boat today, 4-7-2016. The boat does not come with paddles or tie downs in case you were wondering. The boat feels sturdy but is a little heavy to handle by one person. It arrived faster than expected. The boat had a few scratches on it upon delivery from the shipping and handling process. Overall I am pleased with the value and quality. I shopped around and Home Depot had the best deal on Sundolhin products. I also bought the Sun slider paddle boat from Home Depot in the same shipment. Very pleased as a customer with this transaction. April 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice canoe After a bit of delay getting the canoe (free shipping, couldn't complain), I received the canoe well packaged and in time for our camping trip. Very good purchase, very stable in the water... had my wife and two dogs along. Motor mounted well, no problems. April 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best value canoe available... Simply, as of this writing (2/16/2016), you can't find a square stern 15'6" canoe at this price ($499.00 plus tax) anywhere. I've looked...and looked...and, well, you get my point. Plus, HD had it shipped to my doorstep for FREE...Yes, for free. Delivery from the factory in the Midwest to CA took less than 10 days from order placement. The canoe arrived packed in a tarpaulin bag. Everything handled the cross country journey well. Once on the lake loaded to about 400lbs (capacity 800lbs), the canoe propelled and tracked through the water with ease using our paddles. Side to side stability was very good also. I'll be adding more accessories "stuff" e.g. rod holders, tie downs etc. The high density polyethylene hull is definitely strong enough to support these additions whether I choose to use rivets or small nut/bolts to secure such. I mounted my 50lb thrust trolling motor (maximum thrust supported from the specs -40lbs-oops ;-) on the square stern. Easy to mount and the transom mount was solid. Using my trolling motor on this canoe was a joy. Metaphorically, it "flew" back to the ramp! Although I used a larger trolling motor, I'm confident in saying that If you used one at half the thrust rating (25lb-30lb), you'd be thrilled too. In closing, I couldn't be happier with this purchase! Thank you HD!!! February 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Canoe, Great Price I could not beat the price that Home Depot was selling this canoe. With the free curb side delivery, it even beat Walmart. The canoe is fairly large and heavy, but has plenty of room for 3 large people and is fairly stable in the water. You may need to register the canoe if you plan on putting a trolling motor on it. The manufacture provides a "Manufacture's Statement of Origin" form that will help with the registration. You'll just need to have someone from Home Depot's Customer Service department to sign the form, showing that you bought the canoe from them. We are very happy with this purchase and recommend this canoe to anyone looking for a great value. June 9, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good canoe Good canoe. The "V" bottom makes it somewhat unstable. August 12, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by great beginner canoe Just wish there was some type of guard on bottom bow to prevent scraping when using concrete boat access. May 12, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product Purchased this canoe online based on the great reviews it had. Always a little unsure about ordering things like this online but I am very impressed so far. I have taken out the canoe twice and the first time there were two of us who are 220 lbs plus. That amount is well within the capacity but I was impressed with how stable it was. Cup holders, rod holders, and cooler are all neat features. Also pretty cool that it was shipped free to my front door. Great purchase. November 15, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Worth every penny His boat is exactly what I was looking for. Very fast delivery by HD and they beat every competitors' pricing. I had the manager of a local HD sign the title certificate that came with the boat in order to register with the state (40lb trolling motor on rear requires registration). Just took a little explaining, so make sure you save all paperwork. December 7, 2014
