Can you put a trolling motor on the back?

Asked by: shorty
I use my trolling motor on the back. I had to make an alteration to the boat to use it, but it only took a few minutes, and works perfectly. I used a 1 1/4" bit to drill a hole near the top of the battery compartment, sanded down a small piece of 1" PVC pipe, wedged it into the hole & caulked both sides. works great, and you don't have to leave the battery compartment lid ajar.

I got it for my 12 & 9 year olds for Christmas & they've used it a ton already (Jan. 10). There are 2 flaws, in my opinion, that caused a 4 Star rating, rather than a 5: 1. The live well doesn't fill automatically. Its not a big deal, but if anyone fishes with minnows, you'll need a minnow bucket plus another bucket to fill your live well, in an already limited space (I used a 5g minnow bucket with an aerator, that I slide into a 5g Home Depot bucket, for filling, to save space). 2. This one is the actual design flaw that is a pretty serious one, especially if you have young kids on the boat. To run a motor from the stern, there is no hole cut out to run the wires to the battery compartment. The way the boat is configured, you have to leave the lid to the compartment slightly open to run the motor, which doesn't leave a flat platform to stand on (a pretty serious tripping hazard for kids, in my opinion). It was an easy fix, but I would have preferred to have it done by the maker. I drilled a hole with a 1 1/4" bit near the top of the battery compartment, cut a piece of 1" PVC irrigation pipe about 2 1/2 or 3", sanded it just enough to get it small enough to wedge into the hole, then caulked both sides. It works perfectly & the only way water will get into the battery compartment is if there is 1' of standing water in the boat, in which case, you've probably already figured out that you're in trouble. I also did a little "kid-proofing" to the wiring, but I don't want to write a novel here. If interested, send me an email & I will send pics/descriptions of what I did.

For under $2,000 (I got it for less than $1,500 on a Black Friday sale), this boat is an unbelievable steal! It is fully rigged with lights, an aerator, seats, and wiring for a trolling motor. The platforms are sturdy as all, and you can easily stand and move about the boat while fishing. I live on a long brackish canal in South Florida, and the boat is PERFECT. I bought a travel model Torqueedo 1003 motor (3 HP equivalent), but you can put up to a 15 HP gas motor on it, with a trolling motor on the front. Honestly, this boat, at this price, blows out a Tracker or similar boats which cost a a ton more. Two people can fish very comfortably.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great boat! This boat is absolutely perfect for the pond fishing I do. Small enough that it fits on a jet ski trailer I bought, but big enough it doesn't feel constricted when I take my son with me. I have a 30lb thrust trolling motor that pushes the boat around just fine, although a 45-50lb thrust would be better suited. Shipping was extremely fast; I had my boat in about a week and a half. My only complaint is that the red and green running lights on the front were missing, but a quick call to KL Industries (the manufacturer) and the shipped me a new set of lights at no charge.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sun dolphin 120 I have been fishing about 6 times and this boat is awesome the stability and handling is really good . The only problem is my trolling motor works loose from the mount the plastic is slick . I have ordered the mount for a foot controll motor so hopefully this will fix that .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from KL Industries Pro 120 Fishing Boat I Have owned this boat for approximatly 8 years and has been launched a minimum of a dozen times a year. The boat is very easily launched, very comfortable after several hrs of fishing, I have yet to fill all the compartments located within the decks. I use both a 40# thrust electric and a vintage 10 HP Johnson for power. I mounted rod holders and now they come standard. I have had several boats in the past but this has been the easiest to maintain and would highly recommend to a friend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly What I Was Hoping For Ordered the SunDolphin Pro 120 on May 18th from HomeDepot.com and received it on June 10th. Actually got it quicker than I expected. There were a few nicks here and there that probably happened during transport, but nothing too bad. Went fishing the very day I received it and couldn't be happier. The Pro120 is well built, doesn't leak, has very nice features, very stable on the water and very comfortable. Switching from a fishing canoe to the Pro120 is pretty awesome. It's a bit heavy for two people to carry but loading and unloading from the back of a pickup is pretty straightforward as long as the boat is empty. Launching the boat from shore is pretty simple and I plan on getting a trailer soon to launch at boat ramps on bigger lakes. The boat is very stable for it's size and very comfortable to fish out of. The seats are comfortable and there's plenty of room for two to cast. Actually had two adults and a kid in it for a while, and even though it was crowded - we still had an absolute blast with three people. Caught a huge bass the very first time I used it on a pond I usually bank fish on. This small fishing boat is EXACTLY what I wanted and needed. Bought a 55lb Trolling Motor and it pushes it around well. Battery storage and other compartments are great. Didn't use the live-well but probably will soon. I really like this boat. The only negative I can come up with is the drain plug for the main hull. It's too high and when you wash the boat you have to pick it up from the bow to drain the water out. This is a minor inconvenience but still, it's a pain. For what you get - the price is very reasonable. I don't do a ton of online product reviews but felt compelled to take some time on this. 5 Stars for this purchase. Next item on the agenda - get a small outboard and give this girl a name. For those looking for a small fishing boat - this one is a gem.
