We have a small lawn at our weekend/vacation house and currently use a push mower. It does an excellent job but must be used at least weekly and so we decided to try an electric mower so that we wouldn't have to make the trip quite as often. We knew it was not a high end product but this mower destroyed our previously gorgeous lawn with one use. The lawn was scalped, despite adjusting the wheels to their highest level. We returned it immediately and can only hope the lawn recovers before too long.

I have a relatively small backyard (850 sq.ft) and wanted a simple lightweight mower with little upkeep. This Sun Joe electric mower does the job. You can adjust the cut height by easily adjusting the height of the front and back wheels. The bag fills up quickly and I have to stop and empty it 3 times to mow my size yard. But it's so much better than raking up clippings using a reel mower. Great price and very happy with my purchase.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by FLgal This little lawn mower is perfect for our small yard.
The mower arrived in a very timely manner. It was easy to assemble. Love the grass catcher...ridding yard of weed seeds! It has 3 height adjustments which is fine for our yard. I'm a female in my late 60's and have had no trouble using this mower. I'm so glad I made this purchase. We no longer have to pay to get our lawn cut.

We used this to cut our small back yard. It took my husband about an hour and a half just for the back. He had to go VERY slow over the grass for it to cut and then it still missed lots of blades. The width of it isn't large so you have to go up and down your yard A LOT. The bag that catches the cut grass was very small as well. My husband had to empty it almost every row. He eventually took it off and mowed without it because it was taking him too long to mow. It definitely was a nuisance to cut the yard with the cord in the way. Again, another time waster. We took the mower back the next day and got a refund. It's definitely not worth it.

The mower is not particularly difficult to put together. The grass catcher, however is small, and if you are mowing high grass you will be changing it all the time. I thought that it would be usable with or without the grass catcher, but you have to have the grass catcher on and it gets full and grass backs up against the mower quickly, stalling the mower. I would not have bought the mower if I had realized that the grass catcher had to be employed all of the time. The mower height levels are low. It mows ok.

I've mowed the yard 4 times with the Sun Joe. So far so good.
Pros: Cheap, Easy to Start, Lightweight, No gas or oil smell when stored. Adjustable cut height. Handle folds down for storage.
Cons: Grass catcher fills up fast (not sure if it's required), It's mostly plastic so you can't bang it around as much or run it as long as a more expensive metal mower (duh), Power cord management (if you're prone to spacing out while mowing you might want to spray paint your extension cord fluorescent pink, orange at the very least).

My son-in-law calls it my "beetle mower"....I love it. I am 69 years old and my son-in-law has been mowing my yard for 9 years. I now have a mower that I can start and maneuver. It is lightweight enough for me to lift in and out of my camper/tool shed. It is easy to clean up and does what i need it to do in my yard. I think it's a grand way to beautify my space and get much needed exercise.

It is clear from the pictures that this is not a super sturdy machine built for large yards and intense use. But.. if you have a small yard, and don't mind a corded mower, this is a great solution. The frame and wheels are plastic and the handle is metal. So I am worried about the plastic becoming brittle over time. The electric motor is adequately strong, and while not as loud as a gas mower, it is louder than some electrics I have owned. The operation is smooth and the grass catcher is a nice feature. As long as you are not trying to mow grass that's really long, it is fine.
If you have a small yard, and you commit to mowing frequently so that the grass doesn't get too long, you shouldn't be disappointed. The price on this made it an excellent value.
