The product went together easily. I was a little hesitant after reading some of the reviews, but went ahead and tried the shredder anyway. I am happy I did as this shredder works great. You do have replace the easily replaced line more often if you run twigs, rocks or bark through it. It is loud. I also built a wood base for it so it set on a large trash barrel. Using the trash barrel is much easier than using bags. Its not a commercial unit but for home use it will do the job.

I got this to help dispose of the trimmings I made to my Red Oak trees this Spring. So all the leaves were green and attached to small twigs. I thought that this might be a more challenging job than piles of dry Fall leaves. But that didn't matter to this Sun Joe! It very quickly made a minced green blob of leafy matter just a fraction of the size of the pile it formerly was. The small twigs passed through stripped bare. It can do about a 5' round pile of leaves in about 2 minutes. I prefer to place a 20 gallon rubber barrel underneath it to catch the mulch then dump that out. It is loud and whines at a higher pitch than an electric weed eater. The plastic filament is thick at 0.10 size and you could cut your own replacement pieces from a spool of line. When done, you can easily disassemble it and store it in the box it came in.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nothappy123 Sun Joe reduced last years fall collection by 1/4 the volume.
Sun Joe shredder helped me reduce volume and cleanup my composting area. It needs to be feed slowly but the end result is uniform tiny peaces of leaves. When mixed with grass cuttings my compost pile temperature went up right away and started cooking. I have only had the shredder for two weeks but it looks like it will cut my time to finished compost in half. The unit fits perfectly with standard lef collection bags. Thanks
PS Good customer service and quick response to questions.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by MyGoToOfficecom It works too well!
It was easy to assemble the mulcher... I didn't even look at the directions until after I was done. I quickly shredded 8-10 bags of leaves into 1-1/2 bags. I did not have to replace the cutting string at all, but there were no small limbs in the leaves, either.
The second wave of fallen leaves were damp from rain, but I had shredded the larger pile so quickly that I knew I could wait a day or two for the leaves to dry. You will stop more often to unclog wet leaves, so let them dry first if you can.
I was kinda expecting to have to work a little harder.... For now, the mulcher sits in the garage, having done its job quickly and efficiently.

I wouldn't reccommend this for doing the whole yard, but, it is perfect for mulching the leftover leaves that come down after having them picked up by our lawn guy. It was very easy to assemble and a full container of leaves mulches into very tiny pieces in less than 30 seconds. We also have a row of pine trees so it will come in quite handy for getting rid of some of those darn pine needles! We were able to store it easily between the cars in our two-car garage - small footprint.

This is a nice solid product from Sun Joe. I own their 40 volt rechargeable 18 inch snow blower and it works extremely well, So when I saw this 110v shredder it was no problem to choose it as they make a great product.
Unpacked from box and assembles in less than 15 minutes, No tools required. Ran a Heavy duty outdoor grounded extension cord plugged into an exterior GFCI receptacle and turned it on. I tested an assortment of old tomato plants, leaves, grass and grass plants, pine needles etc….
If you read the directions they recommend using 2 handfuls at a time, if you follow that plan it works great. You can bog it down if you over feed it or force too much down its throat in one shot. I used a 2 foot stick I found in the yard so I wouldn’t have to push the leaves down with my own hands.
It took me about 20 minutes to mulch the pile in the pictures into a nice fine mulch which I am going to mix into my tomato garden before I plant this year ,It’s a great composter…
Overall a very high quality product with a high rating from me. Operates quietly with the electric motor and no pulling a cord to start it, also has a circuit breaker so its overload protected. Thanks to the JOE people for another quality product.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Boilermaker Surprisingly efficient, but with a couple of issues.
Setup was very quick and easy. It actually works better than I thought it would. It doesn't work nearly as fast as they try to tell you in the owner's manual though. Their claim is that it can do 55 gallons of leaves in a minute. Absolutely no way is this true. Not even with tiny leaves that would go straight thru.
It does do a nice job of shredding dry leaves, and does pretty well with wet leaves. There is a setting for pine needles and we have used that setting to shred pine needles. About the best it does with the pine needles is to cut them in half.
The manual also claims it can reduces leaves by a 16 to 1 ratio. That is another claim I find to be an exaggeration. I can see about 4 to 1 at the best.
There are 3 issues I have with this shredder. The first is with the legs. They are adjustable in height. I'm over 6 feet tall and my wife is about 5' 10 so we have it set at it's tallest. There is a twist mechanism on the legs to lock in the setting. They just don't work well. We have resorted to using electrical tape to help hold the adjustment. I'm also concerned with how flimsy the legs feel. I hope they hold up, I guess we will see.
The other issue I have is with selector mechanism for the leaves. It is a slider lever to adjust from wet leaves, to coarse shredding all the way down to fine shredding and pine needles. This adjustment doesn't have as big an effect as I would like. The second issue is also with the area of the adjustment lever. Especially when shredding dry leaves, dust and debris comes blowing out around the lever. We solved that problem by taping a small piece of cloth on the shredder and draping it over the lever area. The debris hit the cloth and fell straight down.
Two safety items you need when using this shredder. You need to wear some type of eye protection as debris does get flipped back out the top by the spinning cutter line. You also need to wear some kind of ear protection as this shredder is pretty loud.
The shredder uses a .100 size cutting line. You get some replacement lines with it and you can buy more pre-cut line if you choose. I would suggest just going to the Home Depot and buy a spool of .105 size trimmer replacement line and cut your own. It is a whole lot cheaper. We ran some tests with one original line on one side and one replacement line we cut on the other. We could find no difference in how long the lines lasted so I'm convinced that buying a spool of replacement line and cutting them yourself is, by far, the best way to go financially.

I bought one of these, and used it to shred a couple of bags of dry hay. Next time I used it, I did a couple bags of dry leaves. Next time I used it, was was dead. The company asked me to send it back, and a replacement unit was sent to me. It worked for less than an hour, and died. I sent that one back too. They sent me a THIRD unit, and that only lasted 15 minutes. Three brand-new units, and each of them failed. I would not in good conscience recommend this company or any of it's products.
